Question Replace only rears - possible?

Most likely my rears will wear sooner than the fronts. I was wondering if I can replace just the rears with different tires altogether (was thinking Michelin pilot sports). I have the performance model with 8.5x18 in rear and 8x18 in front shod with OEM tires.

Will there be any consequences for doing this?

What will they be? How serious?

Been reading a lot of posts lately about people doing just that, with poor results. I guess performance tires have now reached a point where you can't mix them, even front to rear.

In that case what kind of karazy maneuvering would I need to perform in order to wear the fronts?

You can do it, its just that the cars have a bit of understeer in stock form. Putting on grippier/larger rear tires would only make the understeer worse. Mixing tire brand/models is fine as long as you do it properly.
