tire question?
I have a 2008 nissan 350z grand touring, I had a quick tire question I have been researching online and have not been able to find a definitive answer. I have the stock rays wheels 19" rear and 18" front. My stock tire size on the rear is 265 35 19. I was wondering if I may be able to install 265 30 19 on the rim? is this possible? has anyone done it and are they any significant problems and or issues associated with this. The tires i am looking to install are Continental ExtremeContact DWS (Ultra High Performance All-Season) 245 40 18 on front and 265 30 19 on rear. Thank you.
using one of the many online tire calculators, you find that no, it's not really a correct size. Your speedometer will be off, you'll be putting more miles on than you're actually driving, and the car is going to look a bit goofy as the sidewall will be too short
Putting a 265 30 19 will work. It will just mean that you have a shorter sidewall compared to the OEM tire. HOWEVER i think the layout that your going for is not a good idea.
First of all. I think you need to do a little more research on how tire sizing works. So that you understand what each of the numbers mean.
2nd. If you go with 265 30 19 in the rear. And 245 40 18 on the front then there will be a difference in the height/diameter/circumference etc of the tires and you may get the "slip" light turning on and off constantly like some of the other members on the forum have. Im not sure exactly which set up you should go for, but from what i know about tires. its usually not a good idea to have tires that are different heights.
Im no pro on tires. But if im wrong i think that the rest of the members here will be glad to correct me

All is explained here...

If you go from a /35/ to a /30/ on the rear, you will make them shorter than the fronts which will trigger TCS/VDC problems.

Yes, and the cars computer accounts for the different in height, actually it expects there to be a difference in tire height.

That is too short. VDC will engage since the rear is shorter than the front. You will also feel every bump with that small sidewall. Sell those, and buy another set of 265/35/19s, 275/35/19s, or 285/35/19s for the rear.
ok doing some more research i think im going to go with 245 40 18 on the front and 275 35 19 on the rear continental dws all arounf has anyone run this setup and how did it go. secondly I have a a set of winter tires w rims 245 40 18 all around will these clear the brembos on the rear of my car and fit has anyone tried.

OP, I'm wondering if you came to a solution with your tire size selection yet.. I have a 2007 with the same wheels and I will be looking at buying tires soon. I was thinking like some of the posts here and considering going up in size with the rear sidewalls. I was also looking at the Conti DS or DWS tires. If you installed new tires, let me know what you decided on as far as make and size. And if you are happy with your decision.
I am keeping the fronts stock size and prob moving the rears to 275/35R19 which results in a rear sidewall increase in about an eighth of an inch in height.
I was also researching the Conti tires but read in a couple other threads that due to the thin sidewalls, you feel a much softer tire. I doubt "I" will feel the difference since I don't track my car, but I did notice that the subject was covered.
Let me know what you did...
Thanks..
