Default Yokohama S Drive Tires

Hey guys, within the next month or so im going to be needing new tires for my z. I'm planning on keep my stock wheels on for atleast another 2 years so i dont think its that bad of an investment. So i went down to town fair tire, and one of the guys suggested these Yokohama S Drive tires 225/40R18Y front and 245/45R18Y rears. I like the tires alot and he gave me a price of $900 including balancing, alignment, and valve stems. Ok so those anyone have these on there car, or know anything about them. Thanks

I have the Sdrives 17's on my stockish Z. They are a great street tire and had has excellent traction in the rain and dry pavement. They also last longer then the kumho ASX's I had on there before. Also check with tire rack because they have pretty good pricing on these tires. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....eModel=S.drive
Hope this helps.

S Drive is a great tire from what I have seen. I just put them on my Z a bit before winter so I didn't get much time to play around with them but the time I did get to spend with them was great. They are also great in the rain which I absolutely cannot say for the Bridgestone (RE050A) that came on the car. I can't remember exactly which website I used but I got a set of 4 for about $650. Good luck with your choice.

I just went back to town fair tire on my lunch break with the print out from tire rack. They dropped it from $901 down to $830 out the door. I don't think that's too bad with what you guys are saying about them so I put a deposit on them but I probably won't put them on till it stops snowing in ct. Thanks alot for the help.

I have the S-drives on my rears. Good tires, I still have traction issues IMO, but that will be in anything that arent slicks.

Difference in circumference is 6.3 percent. Any particular reason you have chosen these sizes?

these are the stock sizes for the 350z, the only thing i changed is instead of going 225/45/18 in front i am going 225/40/18 to give it a little more of a staggered look....

YOu need to run 225/45-18 or 245/40-18 up front or VDC/TCS/ABS will not like you.

That little change will screw you. Its actually a big change.

The common aftermarket 18's you run a 245/40-18 front and 275/40-18 rear. 19's are 245/35-19 front and 275/35-19 rear. Simple to figure out, you just have to keep a slight stagger in height front front to rear.

ya but like your saying an after market 18 inch will be a 245/40/18 front, and the tire i want to get for my stock 18 is a 225/40/18, i dont understand how thats different. The width of the tire is smaller than the aftermarket rim set up but the profile is the same. Im not trying to annoy you and i hope you dont take it like that, im just trying to figure out why running that 5 profile less would mess me up. thanks for your input

profile is not a constant height. its the percentage of your tread width. thus 225/40 has less sidewall than 245/40.

ya i understand that profile is a percentage depending on width. But im not changing the width of my stock tire, my car came with 225/45/18 and i want to get these 225/40/18 yokohamas, but terrasmak said the that change of profile would throw my car off, and im just trying to figure out why

You answered your own question.

225/45 has a bigger sidewall than 225/40 therefore your going to put tyres on that have a smaller rolling diameter.

Or you can run a 245/40 on your stock front wheel. Less understeer, better handling

From the outside you would never notice, just feel in the handling.
