Default Dunlop Star spec sizes?

Is 275 the widest size for Starspecs? Have they discontinued 285's? I thought i saw guys running 285's in these?

Just looked at the Tire Rack and it doesn't look like anything over 275 is available.

275 is as big as they go. The RS3's come in 285 though.

RS3=Softer compound, softer sidewall, and handles heat better

SS=Slightly harder compound, stiffer sidewall, loves cooler weather (under 75f), and better in the wet.

Overall they are both good, but have their own perks and disadvantages.

I prefer a stiffer sidewall. Most of my track days will be in summer, so exceeding 75f.

I want a good balance for street and track that I'll get at least a season out of.

What do you consider a season? I get about 10 days on the track out of a set of NT05's

Well, on the east coast, car will be driven april-oct. Likely tracked 4-5 days begining june-oct. Until next year basically, assuming bought new when my rims get here.

For NA, you dont need a 285. I was worried going from 275 re050s to 255 star specs. They grip so amazingly. I went from lower half placings to top 3 finishes just from the tires. Its less rotating weight anyways.

I hear the RS3 is great, but only second best to the star specs. I say star specs for us pigs.

Dont like overheating
Perform better then most in the rain
They will talk to you

Dont know how they will hold out on the track yet, but we shall see. I use them for autoX.

For autocross.....I'd take the width any day....though you won't have a street tire class to compete in once over 255's. Open track...not so much a concern. The lesser widths will get it done.

RS3 is awsome, 285/35 and 265/35 is a great combo. Nitto NT05 works great, many choices and 275/35 square or 265/35 and 275/35 with star specs. Any of those above will make you happy.

Think I'm a go with the Star Specs since i've just never heard a bad thing about them. I was considering the 275's in other tires, so not so bad.

I was a bit concerned about the aesthetic as well. I was looking at the RT615's but those wear very quickly from what I've seen.

How is the Nt05 for wear?

i have the NT05 now and other than some hydroplaning they're awesome tires. but since i live in florida and rain is often here i dont think i will get another set. as far as wear i can tell you the rears wont last.. and i've only had them for a little over a month.

All tires hydroplane at the same speed. Tread design affects traction before you plane out and stability while up on plane.

None are the listed tires are going to have decent wet performance.

makes sense. i drove the car for the first time in heavy rain on NT05's the other day and it didnt feel stable at all, less comfortable than expected.

any idea how long the RS-3's last since they have a 140 treadwear vs 200 on NT05's?

Pretty much why i went with 255s. Unfornately STR is such a pain with s2000 and NB/NC miatas. STR is unpopular here so instead I went to an very popular unlimited local class and do very well. Just this one damn STi

I will have to say that the star specs are very good in the rain. It has been cold and raining alot the last few weeks and they have done a great job. Today was dry and alittle warmer and they were awesome. So far no complaints. I am running 275/35-18 all around
