Default OEM wheels cracking.

https://my350z.com/forum/wheels-and-t...0z-wheels.html

I dont know if anyone out there still has there standard OEM wheels that cracked. I think that i am making progress on this wheel thing. I recently talked to the NHTSA and they asked me to send in my standard OEM (not chromed). In talking to him he said they hadnt received any other reports of standard OEM wheelswith this problem. This is the same problem thats on the other wheels Chrome or powdercoated but this shows that it is a Nissan problem and not that of a dealer custom wheel. If anyone out there still has the standard wheels that are cracked please contact the NHTSA Monday-Friday 8am to 8pm at (888) 327-4236. Thanks everyone. I will keep everyone posted. I realize that this is an old topic but it is still a very serious issue and if we could prove that it happened on all wheels, Nissan would have to fix this for everyone.

Link doesn't work.

Based on what I've seen here over the years, cracked OEM wheels are rather rare. With 150,000+ cars produced with 600K wheels involved, you would expect 100 or so failures to naturally occur.

Dave I agree completely. I however have two broken on my car and I met a guy here in Arkansas yesterday and he has a broken one on his 2006. You are right though you would expect some bad. I just think that this is all lumped together. Sorry about that Link.

You didn't go into any details on the failures you had. Can you post pics? I've seen wheels broken just from a simple off-road excursion. Stress cracks can form for various reasons.

When I said "off road" I meant like hitting a curb sideways or sliding off the road onto a soft shoulder. You'd be surprised what will damage the suspension. Same kind of stuff can damage the wheels. The fact that you have multiple wheels damaged is unusual.

Looking at the pictures, my guess would be damage from some sort of impact. Two adjacent spokes failing from stress seems almost impossible. At least NHTSA is willing to analyze them. If they give you results, definitely post back as I'm curious as to what they determine.

I havent ever seen a wheel fracture ever to tell you the truth. No impact. I am the only one that drives the car. As soon as i get an answer I will let everyone know. I doubt that it will be in favor of any Nissan owner. I do think that its funny.. if you look at the Chrome wheel that broke out in the picture. The cracks on mine are in the exact same place!

Just wanted to keep everyone updated. I have talked to a gentleman with the NHTSA. I sent in pictures of my wheels. He then replied by email and asked me to send him pictures of wheel sizes, dot rating and more. I sent that in. They have now asked me if I would be willing to send in all my Factory OEM wheels to the Ohio Lab. It looks like someone is paying attention. They are paying for me to ship the wheels. I am donating the wheels but to me this sounds positive! just wanted to keep everyone up to date. i cant stress enough if you know anyone that has a cracked OEM wheel .. please please please call the NHTSA. Ok thats it for now.
