Default tire options for track rays v1?

hello,

i never have been good at understanding how to spec out the correct size tires for the look i am after...so that is why i am posting here. i am looking for the lowest profile tire that i can put on my rays track v1 rims. i don't want the outside of the tire to be smaller than the lip of the rim...just something low profile where the outside of the tire is flush with the rim. they are 18" rims (8" wide in front and 8.5" wide in rear). ideally, a tire with all around good performance would be best but i could sacrafice performance for looks. my budget is $2-300 per tire. please list your recommendation with brand, model, and tire size.

thanks in advance

rw

To be fair, your tire options are the same as anybody else with 18" wheels around those widths.

It's pretty easy to go onto tirerack.com and pick out a set of tires. 245/275 would work if you want a fat tire, otherwise just stick with stock tire sizes.

well using tire rack's tools i came up with these http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....k&autoModClar=

but like i said, i don't really know how to spec these out best. i don't really want to effect any of the braking system or traction control so i might be stuck with the stock sizes...so 225/45 and 245/45???

man, i just don't know...anybody?

You can also run 245/40 front and 245/45 rear for more neutral handling, and also 245/40 front with 255/40 rear as a great spirited driving setup,.

Lots of options, but you're probably best off just getting the 225/45/18 and 245/45/18 you posted above.

thanks for the recommendations....spirited driving ftw

i wouldn't even know the difference between those sizes and the sizes i pulled from tire rack...i just went with the stock sizes. my desire would be to have a tire that is low profile....but i don't know enough about sizes to figure out which would be best for that look.

if i deviate from the stock, will that affect my tcs or abs?

thanks

Its simple. Match OEM tire circumference. 40 profile. 35 profile. 30 profile. 25 profile. Whatever you want. Just match OEM tire circumference.

TCS allows more options than VDC. If you are uncertain about size, stick with OEM.

Friend of mine has a daily driver with 245/40 square. I think he just turns off VDC everytime he gets in the car.

could you post up a pic of this setup? i might consider this...i don't have to worry about the vdc since i don't have the track model.

what about 245/40 and 255/40...would this work...pics?

please excuse the noobness with regards to tire sizes

The two versions i posted are very TCS/VDC/ABS compliant. The 245/40 &245/45 combo will probably handle the best, the 245/255 combo will also take a slight amount of understeer out. Get the combo available, not all tires have these sizes available.

i am thinking that i will go with the 245/255 combo...seems to be just about what i am looking to get out of them (low profile + good handling)

pics anyone?

255/40R18: Actual speed 100.0 MPH. Speedometer will read 102.5 MPH. This is acceptable.

so i have decided to go with the michelin ps2's.

the two combos considered are: 245/40 - 255/40 or 245/40 - 245/45

which combo would look better aesthetically?

Who cares, tires are both round and black.

Actually the 245/45 in the back will have less wheel well gap since it is the proper tire height. Will also handle better to, less understeer.

My wheel tire comments are always functional. I do not do "looks better."

i don't want to end up with a setup that doesn't look right, mostly regarding tire height (prefer f/r to look the same) and i am just not familiar enough with tire sizes to know.

thanks all for the replies
