Unbolt the center, the lip and barrel is one piece. You can use aircraft paint remover and carefully remove the clearcoat on the lip. Once the old clearcoat (assuming its still there) is off, get some Mother's Aluminum and Mag Polish, hand polish them and you'll have a mirror like finish again. Rebolt the center piece/spokes back on. Cost you about 10 bucks in polish.

Just make sure you bolt them with the right torque though

I plan to try this this weekend. If I can save $500 by doing this, I'll definitely give it a shot.

Keep in mind if you do that, you'll have bare aluminum which will get f*cked up by a lot of different chemicals (oxidation), brake dust (which can cause pitting), and you'll generally have to keep polishing them regularly to keep them shiny.

It's a shame there is no replacement for that signature Volk magic shiny lip coat.

Having a torque wrench is definitely a plus.

The GT lips are anodized from the factory which seems like its all gone now anyways. its too expensive to re anodize so as others have said, these wheels need to be refinished and the curbage fixed..which is totally fixable.

the wheels will need to be polished and cleared...unless you want to constantly polish off the oxidation with it exposed to the air.
