Default Volks pretty messed up

I just got my car last month. My Z has volk GTS wheels, and the previous owner messed them up pretty bad. The lips are scratched badly, and the paint has definitely seen better days. The inner part of the wheels has been powder coated black, and covered again with clear coat.

I can't tell if the spots I'm seeing are trapped in the clear coat, or if they are just extremely hard to get off. Not to mention I have cleaned the wheels a countless number of times.

I read Andy's write up on maintaining rays, and I didn't find anything that would help my case.

The clear coat is cracking all over the spokes of the wheel .

I guess my question is... Is there any way to remove these spots, as well as the black paint? I love the way the GTS wheels look without paint, so I would rather it have the original appearance.

If there isn't a way to remove the spots and paint, is my best bet just to powder coat the whole thing gunmetal-ish to resemble the original look?

Thanks guys

I would get them refinished. Theres no way besides that to make them look new. I can't believe they even got that way. Thats terrible.

I would have the lips stripped of their anodized finish and polished. And I would have the centers stripped and powdercoated a different color.

Agree. Unfortunately they look like crap. Profession refurbishing needed here. DIY is unacceptable.

Bingo, that's why the spokes look so skinny. I had trouble pinpointing what was so off with these.

If you have stock wheels...throw them on and get those volks refinished properly. On a side note....once your volks is refinished...i would invest a few bucks on a set of wheel locks to protect your wheels.

Your ride will look 10x better if you have the barrels polished, and the faces painted. Those wheels are worth alot so its totally worth doing.
**edit: Have the curbing fixed too, and put fresh rubber on!

refinish or die. Those look mufkn terrible bro. Just send them off to be polised and you will be happy. Dont let them clearcoat them either after they polish. Looks much better with out clear coat.

Sorry for the late reply, I haven't been near a computer over the past few days..

How much $$$ does it usually cost to refinish? I have never dealt with an issue like this, so I don't know what to expect. There is a shop here in town that quoted me $125 per wheel to "fix" them. The guy didnt mention refinishing or anything, so I'm not sure what he meant by "fixing" the wheels.

Did you see the rims before you bought the car?. If so, then you knew what you were in for. Just spend the money to fix them because they are worth it.

Yes I did. I thought I would be able to polish them up myself, but I didn't know much about the wheels when I got the car.

The other mods that I got basically for free heavily outweigh this $500 that I'll spend to fix the wheels, so I'm not too bent out of shape about it.
