Alright, so performance wise is staggered or square the better choice?
What about putting 17" in the front and 18" in the rear, how does that affect performance?
Thanks again for all the help guys I really appreciate it

17 front and 18 rear lets you run a slightly lighter setup, but limits you on tire size. I ran 275/40-17 front and 275/40-18 last season. It was a really nice setup. I have 18's all around now, and have a much bigger selection of tires.
I really don't like the way the car handles with a completely square setup. To me the car feels much better when the rear tires are taller (OEM style)

As you guys have said, if I get 17"x8.5 or 18"x8.5 it will limit me in terms of tire selection. Aside from the amount of tires to choose from are the tires that will fit on as "good" as the ones that will fit on say 17x9.5 or 10x10.5?
I guess my question is, aside from selection is performance of the vehicle affected?

Honestly, i would just go 18's front and rear. The fastest street tire setup on our cars right now is the Hankook RS3 with a 265 or 275/35-18 front and 285/35-18 rear. If you buy wheels to fit those sizes, you will be able to run any tires that come out in the future.

You will need at least a 17x9 to fit a 275/40-17 up front.

I see that with a 18x8.5/18x9.5 setup I could get the 245/40ZR18 which is about $60 cheaper than the 265/35-18. What's the difference here? Why would I want 18x9.5/18x10.5 instead of 18x8.5/18x9.5?
BTW, I've increased my wheel/tire knowledge about 10,000% in the past two days, thanks to you guys

Alright I think I'm gonna go with 18" all around. The only question I have left is should I go with staggered 18x9.5/18x10.5 or 18x8.5/18x9.5?

I just looked at my current tires and they are 225/45/18 front and 245/45/18 rear. If I get 245/35/18 and 265/35/18 won't that mean that I'll have less tread since it's reduced from 45 to 35? So the tires won't last as long? Why wouldn't I just want to get tires with a higher number?

not less tread width but shorter sidewall.
your turn in response will be slightly better due to less sidewall roll (the shorter sidewall typically increases sidewall stiffness)
use the sticky at the top of this section to calculate the differences in rolling diameter to figure out how much shorter the new tire setup will be.
