Default Fenders

hi,

i was wondering for all the people who have 19's,
do you need to roll your fenders?

one of my buddies told me that the 350z has lots of room, but i was wondering if u still need to roll em.
if so, how did you guys do it? when i rolled the fenders on my accord, i can still see slight bends in the fender which looks ugly.
i also had a friend that cut the inner lip off of his fender, but was wondering if that would make the fender weaker and if that could cause it to cave in.

im a noob thats willing to learn.

thank you for your help.

size of rim doesnt matter. the idea is that youd choose a tire profile to keep the overall diameter same as stock. so vertically there is no difference in hight so you dont affect your gearing. none the less if you drop the car you can run into problems; but these problems would be no different than stock.

now width does matter. I beleive 295 will fit depending on offset. and that would be sized for a 10.5" rim. so you should be fine there assuming your offset isnt too crazy. if you go 295 and drop the car; you might need it rolled; thats the downside to rolling; the paint could crack, tho if the shop is good it shouldnt come out wavey. and cutting the lip is the opposite; paint will be fine, but it does loose its structure.

wow! tahst some really helpful info.
thanks ares.

btw, do you think it would still need to be rolled if i went with 285?
at 285, the tire is prolly stretched quite a bit right?

i also have noticed that lots of people on here with 19x10.5 is running with only 275's tho.

that would depend on the width of the rim. 285 will IMO fit anything from 9.5-10.5 just fine, you can go .5 in either direction beyond that; but I personally wouldnt.

best thing to start out with is figure which rim you really want; then see what widths it comes in; then see what tires you could fit on there and if you still want that rim. many rims do not go that wide; market dwindles in certain areas. if your going to make a 9.5" rim or wider your probably looking for performance with that much tread; meaning you wouldnt want a 30lb rim so it needs to be light weight(forged) and suddenly your at 500$ a rim. so many rims dont get that wide cause they dont want to make them forged.

the one i like is the "work s1 3-piece" with the gunmetal center.
i know they come in 19, i just cant seem to find any detail of what widths they come in.

pretty sure they would have 10.5, altho im not positive.

since they are deepdish, i think the 18 would look a bit small.
so im gonna go for the 19.

thanks again for all your help.

oh yeah a rim like that should certainly be available in 10.5. and you can run anything from 285-305 on them. tho the 305 would probably need some rolling.

my friend suggested i run 295 on 19x10.5.
but i see everyone else on here running 275 on 19x10.5.

what would you suggest?

im gonna lower the car also. so even if i go 285 or even 275, i will prolly have to roll the fenders huh?

me, and most others have 275s on 9.5" rims. but as I mentioned; there is a range of sizes that will fit. I beleive I remember someone running 245s on a 10.5" rim; tho it looked very odd.

with 275s you shouldnt have any problems lowered or not, 285s maybe. it really depends on the offset; gotta get it just so it doesnt rub the wheel well or the fender. the magic spot is there, but might be tough to find. if you get 275s but with like a 12offset you might rub. but if you have a 35offset youll have room to spare.

the absolute answer is easier once you have more concrete options; like this is the rim; these are the widths and offsets; this is the tire Ill put on them. then you can choose which offset and width will put you where.

oki i found this page, its pdf.
here is the link.

http://www.work-wheels.co.jp/wheels/...st3p/mst3p.pdf

its shows the different options they offer for the wheel.
but i dont completely understand what all of them mean.

are they offering different sizes based on what size brakes you have? with the different offsets shown?

is the deepdish pretty much for the rear and standard for the front?

heh tho I know the concepts; at that point I get lost. it obviously comes in any width you want. the exact offsets that fit Im not positive of; and that I dont speak japanese makes it tougher. it does seem they have different rims for different brake sizes which is unique, I havent seen that before anyway.

Ive also never seen sizes classified as "deep dish" ussually its just a characteristic of the offset. but the offsets seem to be much the same; so perhaps they angle the spokes differently to leave more lip.

you can have a lip on front if you want; typicly most rims require a pretty wicked offset to get a lip tho; and for that reason the fronts cant have it. but these from what I can tell with the deep dish style come in very tame offsets with what they call deep dish. so you should be able to go that route.

hmm, im pretty confused now.
of all the wheels i choose, i pick the one thats the most confusing for me, haha!

if i want to lower the car so that the fenders cover a small part of the tire, then what offset do you think i should go with for the rear and the front?
i dont want the outer part of the tire to be flush with the fender from the side view. i want it to cover just a tad of the tire too. maybe like 1 or 1.5 fingers. if this makes sense.

i kind of understand offset. i just get boggled when i try to apply it to the wheel and how it would go on the car. since its deepdish and all, i think i get confused even more.

the different offsets based on the brake throws me off too.

once you choose an offset, are you just stuck with the way it mounts onto your car? or can you always adjust with spacers?

you can use spacers; tho only in one direction of course. but its better to get it right without the spacers.

Im personally not sure how you get tires to tuck. it would seem the wheel well is in the way. and would require some modification to work. on offset around 20 should get it very flush; but would probably require rolling when you dropped.

do you think 8.5 and 9.5 with +22 offset for both, would be a better option?
maybe 10.5 is just too much for what i am trying to achieve.

i dont really want to roll the fenders.

those will fit fine; mine are around 32 and 35 f/r respectivly. and with 245 and 275 on them. Ive seen others with 22 offset as well; they fit a bit more flush. not positive where 22 with a drop gets you. it would be close; but Id imagine itd be ok. dont quote me on that.

Im gonna move this over to wheels; might get more first hand accounts
