Bronze TE37 Refinishing Help
Hey guys,
My bronze TE37's look more like gold now. I heard that you could rub some "special" grease on it to bring out the bronze again...
Any word of truth?
Cheers

??I've not heard of any fading on a Volk wheel.
How long have they been on your car?
"Oil rubbed bronze" is actually thin coats of clear coat
that has been tinted to acheive the shade of "bronze"
desired.Sometimes gold is used as a base followed by
top coat of a brown shade. Its possible that your wheels
have some sort of oxidation or a cleaner has been used
that has removed a layer of the top coat and now you
are seeing the base.If this is so,they would need to be
refinished to bring back the "bronze" color.A "grease"?
is not gonna do it.

Have you tried a polish or compound on a small portion to see
if the problem is some type of oxidation? What type of cleaner
have you been using on your wheels? Are they ALL faded?
Or,just the fronts etc?
I don't see how some type of "grease" or oil like they use on
"oiled bronze" would work. The wheels are not real bronze.
You may want to contact Volk directly.

Haven't tried any polish yet, i bought them 2nd hand like that and accepted that they faded and nothing else could be done. It was only recently when the idea of this magic grease came about that made me a bit excited. Funnily enough, its actually the rear thats faded more than the fronts I thought it would be the other way around....
Just sent an enquiry to volks but unsure if i will get any response. Thanks anyways

you don't necessarily want to powdercoat a forged wheel. You can, but it depends on the process being used. Lot's of coaters can't do it correctly and you may end up fatiguing the wheel. Paint is the better option
as far as grease, there is no such thing - your wheels are painted, so it can be treated like most other paints. A good cleaning, a polish, a wax. May want to try a clay bar (start soft) to remove any contamination that has built up over the years. Check the detailing section, some really smart guys there, they will get you in the right direction, just post some pics for them first

Paint the wheels
Will do. I will check the sticker for the date but from memory, probably 5-6yrs old.

Depending on how handy you are, refinishing the wheels using a "oil rubbed" finish does not appear too difficult.I would think that the gold base coat is still good.Taking the finish down with steel wool, cleaning and applying a light
mist of brown color coat followed by some high quality clear coat in a satin
gloss or matte would bring you back where you want to be.

Never heard of a special grease/wax/cleaner that would basically bring faded wheels back to life. I think you're going to need to refinish them again. An experienced wheel refinishing place though should be able to come close to the original finish.
