Let me begin by saying I drove a Supra around for five years, and an Eclipse around for one year before that. My worst accident was when I was snow-drifting, I crashed into a snow bank in a parking lot. I had absolutely no damage, thankfully. With such a good driving record, I decided to invest in a 2003 350Z with 18,000 miles for $22,000.

I've had it for four months, and last night I hit the curb when I was parking on a street. Front, right rim got five scuff marks. They're not so bad, but I'm EXTREMELY bummed. I want to get them repaired, but I also want to get new wheels eventually. What makes mose sense financially? is curb rash tough to fix?

Should I fix the rim, buy a new set of four rims, or just buy a used rim off eBay? (It's the stock 6-spoke clear-coeated style).

If they are just scuffs,you may be able to mix up some touch up paint and fill in the
"spaces" made by the scuffs with several layers of paint.Some wheel reair shops do a excellent job repainting curb damage.If it were me,and was planning on getting new wheels,I'd just touch e'm up.There's a GM color sold by DupliColor that matches Z
wheels pretty good.

Do you have pics of the damage? There are many DIY fixes online, and to repair one wheel shouldn't actually cost a whole lot. You might even be able to find a mobile wheel repair professional in your area.

 

We have a guy in town called "The wheel doctor" who came out and fixed mine after I had my new tires put on and the shop that put them on was nice enough to screw them up. Although he did a pretty good job I still can notice and know where the scratches are that the wheel shop put on...

 

yea mobile wheel repair is the way to go. btw you paid quite a bit for that 350z. i sold a 2003 base model pristine condition with 17k miles for 16k flat

I think I got a great deal. Mine was in absolute perfect condition, and it's not a base model. It's a Touring model, which has to be worth a little bit more I think! But you guys are the experts!







What are your suggestions now that you guys can see the damage?

Curb rash should be around $100 but less than $200 to repair, just find a reputable repairer in your town and get an estimate

 

could of gotten an 07-08 model for that price. But if you prefer the DE engine that isnt a bad deal if its everything you wanted. So as long as your happy nothing to worry about. Curbing doesnt look too bad any wheel repair place should be able to make it look brand new

 

A lot of the tutorials online will have you fill that in with some sort of bondo, then you'll need to smooth it out, and respray it.

 

$22k??? God you could have a Nismo for that

 

Honestly you can get a reman wheel on ebay for like 100 shipped I just bought one. Keep your scratched one for a spare..

 

Use a Dremel to grind it down then have shop weld in some aluminum or whatever the make up of the wheel is, then dremel it down and sand to smooth it put. Then you could paint of have it pc'd.

Do it once, do it right.
