Default I got new VMR wheels! And bent one within the first 10 miles!

I literally just put new wheels and tires on and was heading to Open House at Forged Performance when I hit a pothole on the highway ( was changing lanes and did not see it coming). Fortunately the tire still held air so I could get home.

I'm so pissed, I have not even put 10 miles on these wheels and already I have to either repair or replace one. The pothole was deep, I'm curious if anything else was damaged. Does anyone think GADOT or City of Atlanta would pay for it?

BTW I am not saying anything against the quality of the wheels. Considering I was at highway speeds and the hold was pretty deep I am surprised the damage is not worse.

Sucks, but it happens. It is quite difficult to get the city to pay nowadays. They used to just cut checks when the economy was good. You have to prove that you gave them ample notice before the hit, of the pothole's existence. Then they have time to respond, then if you hit the hole after you notified them and they don't fix it, you get a check. That's only if you can prove that exact pothole caused the damages. My friend tried, failed miserably, even though he documented everything and fought it tooth and nail.

Man, that really sucks. Sorry to hear. You should be able to repair it for $200-$300 *if* it's repairable. I'd rather have a new wheel than a repaired one at that price, though. Let us know how it goes and I'd like to highlight what you said - from the way it sounds, *any* wheel would have failed in that situation.

Sorry to hear about your wheel.NO CHANCE CITY OF ATLANTA is gonna pay for it(Cobb
County/Marietta?)
A joke, right?Thought I saw a Z with the same set of wheels today at the Z Nationals?
Those of us that have been driving for some time prolly have the same wheel horror stories.
I do.
I just got a new set of wheels. My wife was taking the Z on a trip. She drives the car
more than I do.She stopped to go through a toll booth, got TOO close to the concrete barrier.Gouged 75% of the rim.The tire also was scrapped.Mad,yes...got on the phone
ordered a new wheel& tire...mounted and balanced.Got it in less than a week.Slapped it
on and torqued it down.Got the damaged wheel hanging on my shop wall...as a reminder.
Just get a new wheel.Life is too short.

Only reason I'm pretty sure about the price is because I was quoted $150 per wheel just to fix small scratches. I'm sure a dent would be more and include a repaint. And knowing what I know about internal stresses/material properties - once you bend a metal to the point of plastic deformation, it alters the grain structure and ultimately the strength of the metal. Bend a paperclip back and forth a few times and tell me what happens.

If it happened within Atlanta's city limits they used to take care of claims when Shirley Franklin was mayor. File a claim and see, I ran World of Wheels in ATL back in the early 2000's and we had customers get their claims payed all the time because she used it as a campaign push. She's out now but they might still be running it, worth a shot anyways.

It happens, you just have to try to avoid potholes whenever possible and this is only a $100 fix from most wheel repairers

Side note - red calipers

I decided to go a different route and got new wheels. Was going to repair OEM wheels but I didn't like them enough to spend the money to repair them. I was quoted $150-$175 each I think just for a bit of curb rash (previous owner liked curbs I guess). Not even that bad, either. I assumed a bent wheel would be even more.

Ahh that's no good! I've heard of people getting the city to pay for repairs from nasty potholes. I would try to contact your city to see what necessary steps would need to be taken to get the hole filled and your wheel replaced.

The wheel itself looks like it could be repaired, but structurally it is not the same as a new wheel of course.

LOL, true that. If you are only buying one rim, maybe VMR can give a discounted single rim if you buy it direct from them. Give this guy a break!
