Default 245 -------> 275 Tire Size

Hey folks,

Been doin' some research and couldn't find a straight answer. So I apologize if this is a repeat.

Basically I have the factory 245 size tire in the rear and want to thrown on a 275. However common sense tells me I'll have more traction but the handling will suck because I'll have tire roll.

Wanted to get some perspectives on this subject (flaming encouraged)

No, 275s have never been done before, especially in the rear.

245/45-18 and 275/40-18 have the same size sidewall. Why would you have more tire roll if the tires are mounted on a proper width wheel.

Btw, I don't like the feel of a lt of the softer sidewall 275's mounted on anything less than a 9.5 inch wide wheel ( V12, Invo, 452)

Incorrect... OldSchool ran 275 or 285 DRs on his OEM 18x8.0 Touring wheels.

I run the stock 18x18.5" Touring v2 rim with 265-35-18 sized tires and they fit great. I've run the 275-35-18 tires in the past and they bulge out way more than I like.

The 265-35-18 tire is .78" wider and .67" shorter than the 245-45-18 tire
If you are running an 8" wide rim you may want to go with the 255-40-18 tire
The 255-40-18 tire is .65" wider and .3" shorter than the 245-45-18 tire

Hope this helps

I had 275/35/18s on my 03 Touring wheels. BFG Drag Radials...never had an issue. I ran 245's up front. BFG KDW2s.

I have the 2006 stock wheels. So, no, they aren't "proper size." But I had a friend suggest that set up, 245s in front and 275 in the rear. And wanted to know the dangers/benefits.

So, still... No one has answered the intended questions.

EDIT: Pro and Cons of 275s on a 2006 STOCK wheel.

EDIT: Pro and Cons of 275s on a 2006 STOCK wheel.
Pros: Wider tire patch, more traction, more aggressive look.
Cons: Wider tire patch for higher chance of hydroplaning, heavier tire.

What else you want to know?

How would it increase hydroplaning?

On an 06 rear wheel, pass, wait till you can buy proper size wheels

Hydroplaning, LOL, almost an unmeasurable difference.
