Wheels locked up, weird effect on the tires
So I did my AutoX couple weeks back and locked up my front wheels for about 2 seconds coming down from around 80mph.
Here's what happened to my NT05's...
Is this normal when you lock up the tires? I find it weird that a "layer" is peeling out like this??

Looks like they were about used up, anyway, but what do you think happens when you drag a non-rotating tire across the pavement? You've burned through the tread layer and what you're seeing is one of the structural layers. If the tire had more tread you might have just created a flat spot.

That, and they're a soft tire to begin with, so you can't expect 20K miles off them. I use the Falken Azenis RT-615K's (a similar tire to the NT05's) on one of my Alfa Spider's, which is a much lighter, much less powerful car than a Z, and I'm lucky to get ~10K miles of not so hard street driving on a set. You might also try increasing the tire pressures for Autocross use.

Wow Dcains, These tires are not just about used up; they’re beyond used up. The wear bars are not only exposed they are almost worn through. NT05 are not only an extremely soft tire (Nito only gives them a tread wear rating of 200) they also have precious little tread depth to start with. (A new tire comes very close to leaving Lincoln’s head exposed in a old school penny tread wear test.)
I passed up a set of these at a very good price, because I didn’t think I could afford the bargain in the long run.

Those look like blisters. Those typically come from over stressing the tire and getting them too hot.
As dcains said, those are shot anyway. Most likely the were pretty worn and the auto-x sent them over the edge.

Ok thanks for the feedback guys. It's my first time to get blisters on my tires. . I was a bit worried that they were remolded rubber lol. I just wanted to make sure before going back to the same shop and buy another pair
Damn ABS bailed out on me.
It's just weird that Nitto makes these super jelly soft that they wear out so fast. Might as well just run NT01's and use them for DD + weekend fun at the track.

ROFLMAO.
I moved them to the rear after the event. I was gonna try and practice some low speed drifts since they're fugged anyways. But looks like they're pretty useless now even for that.
