Default Found touchup paint for 35th Anniv. wheels

Hi Group:

I've found what I think is a pretty decent touch-up paint for the 35th Anniv. wheels, after searching all the threads here without finding what I was looking for. It's Dupli-Color #VW02039 (1/2 oz. brush-on) and/or #BVW2039 (8 oz. aerosol) - the color is called Reflex Silver Metallic. I only tried the brush on, and each was $7.99 at the local Advance Auto Parts. FWIW, I discovered this color after having a silver 2012 VW Jetta loaner while my Z was being repaired.

I had an small area of curb rash on one wheel and some paint chipped off around most of the lug nuts (thanks to a Nissan dealer tech), and the touch-up worked well on all those areas. I'd say the color match is maybe 90%+, and is actually far better than Nissan's K51 touch-up paint matched the body dolor on my Carbon Silver '08, so I'm very pleased. I'd guess YMMV, but it's far better than looking at bare metal or the black primer, and the repairs are only visible if you're looking for them.

While I'm at it, kudos to automotivetouchup.com for selling me some great touch-up paint for both my Z and my wife's '07 Acura TL-S. Both are a perfect match, while factory touch-up paint for both cars was way off. I'd suggest buying 1/2 oz. bottles (rather than the 2 oz., which will probably dry out before you can use much of it), and they sell some nice applicators for tiny chip repairs, too.

Will do - probably won't be until mid next week, though. I only have one wheel partially done, and want to get some proper brushes before I continue. The color match really is great, but there's always going to be a slight texture difference between the original and touch-up finish. I'm going to try using the spray paint, applied with a brush, because it's thinner and should level better.

Just a little update - here's a pic of the repair I need to make:

Just barely curbed it, and there isn't any metal damage, just paint scraped off down to the primer. Today I applied several very thin coats of the touch-up paint, and the color match looks nice, but the touched-up area is slightly raised above the original paint. It's too late to take another pic, as I lost the light, but after two days I'm going to do a very careful wet-sanding and post a pic of the result. Stay tuned . . .

Here's the almost-final result. Still need to retouch a few high spots exposed by the wet-sanding, but the color match is very good:

I think the flash is accentuating the difference in texture between the two finishes. In natural light, I think the color match is very close, although I still want to do a bit more wet-sanding to smooth the touched-up area down a bit more.
