Default What happened to my wheel!?!?

3 or so years back I purchased 18" Black Crono HT wheels for my car from OZ Racing. These are very nice wheels, and I paid a pretty penny for them. However, on one of the wheels, the outer layer has been peeling off! Why is this happening? It looking horrible. All of my other wheels are fine, it's just this one. What can I do about this? The wheels are no longer under warranty, and this particular wheel isn't even manufactured anymore. Any advice? Here are some pics:

Yeah, get them refinished. Might as well do the entire set if you can.

If you decide to refinish the “bad one,” you will need to refinish all to get an exact match.

If the other 3 wheels are fine and you can live with a slight variation in appearance. Refinish only the “bad” wheel.

I had the same situation and decided to refinish only the faulty wheel; and after six months, the wheels all looked about the same. New appearance degenerates quickly, and then it levels off.

Life is way too short to sweat the small stuff.

The clear coat is peeling off your wheels.....you didn't do anything wrong, it simply happens. I have a set of HREs that have done the same thing and I've babied them until recently when the clearcoat went:

Wheel refinishers can tend to be expensive for only refinishing the surface of the wheels if there are no physical repairs required. Look up a local powdercoating shop. Have the wheels dismounted from the tires and take the wheels to them. Our local shop only charges $45 per wheel to bead blast and powdercoat rims. You get you choice of hundreds of colors from gloss black, matte black, gray, titanium, and everything in between. There are metal flake colors, solid colors, etc.

Here is an Xterra wheel I had done in matte black:

And another set in a color that matched the roof rack:

When that starts happening, you gotta sell'em and go get works. That's the only way to fix it.

Naw seriously, it happens. Just get'em powdered. Plastidip works and it will only cost $11 bux or something like that. But you don't strike me as the kind of guy capable of being ok with such measures.

Is there any alternative to powdercoating? I'm not the biggest fan of the powerdercoated look and would like to keep them as close to OEM as possible.

My PF01 wheels came with similar paint damage and I airbrushed it with reduced PPG paint in Superblack KH3.

You could also go to a body shop supply store and they can match the paint in automotive grade paint and put it in an aerosol spray can. Wet sand the area with 800 grit, clean it with 90% isopropyl alcohol and glaze on a few layers, won't notice the fix at all.

+1 to what everyone else has said, get them refinished

While those are out getting fixed spend some extra money and upgrade to the Brembo brakes
