Default Short review of Michelin Pilot Super Sport Tires

I saw a few people asking about these tires so I figured I'd post a little write up. I replaced my worn Toyo T1R's with a set of Pilot Super Sports of the same sizes:

255/35/19 front on a 9.5" wide wheel
285/35/19 rear on a 10.5" wide wheel

First impression: these things run wide. They are noticeably wider than my equally sized toyos. Visual preference is subjective but who can argue with more tire?

First 400ish miles: Taking it easy, the first few things I noticed was that the ride is quite smooth and there isn't as much road noise as my Toyos espcially at low speeds (however both of these can be a result of simply going from worn tires to new tires as the toyos got very noisy as they worn down and it's common for new tires to feel smoother from the increase in tread depth).

Autocross event: Running 34psi cold and could not have been happier with them. I placed 6th out of 29 cars on street tires and beat several of the same people by a couple seconds who beat me by a second or two back when I was on the Toyos. My understeer on entry was gone and I had much more confidence applying throttle coming out of turns. Grip is excellent, tires are predictable, correcting mistakes is easier than it used to be.

Haven't yet experienced them in wet conditions but I can report back once I do. Tire wear is also to be determined.

Overall highly recommended. I paid $1,215 for my set of four from TireRack. Fronts came the very next day after I ordered, rears came two days after I ordered. Worth every penny.

Nice review- I can also report trying a set of Michelin Pilot SS at a track event on a friends G35C and being impressed. Good grip with predictable breakaway characteristics at speeds ranging from 45 to 125 MPH. Very nice warm weather tires.

Expected more but a great tire in the dry and wet. I am amazed at how well it does with both. The comfort is way below the rating Michelin gives in my opinion. It has been the most harsh tire I have had so far comparing to other summer sport tires in its class. Besides the comfort level everything is amazing and also the tread life compared to others in its class, seems to last around 50% longer than tires that are just as good performers in the dry. The only time I take them off my car is when winter comes. Exactly as advertised, these tires will bring you to a dead stop if you try using them in the snow. But they'll make you a hero in the wet or dry!

I love these tires and probably will buy them for every car I own.

good to read. I have been considering getting a set (DD). right now I ride on Cooper RS3-A, and I think that they are amazing in the rain. I have driven them above highway speeds during record rainfall, and the grip is amazing. Dry performance is very good compared to other tires that I have had (Potenzas RE40,Ventus V12 evo K110, Continental ContiSportContact). I expect the SS to have better dry performance...love AZ for that, but we do get some rain, and I have learned that tire makes all the difference in the rain (F the RE40s).

I'm at 460whp and in the dry these tires are great. Very predictable on turns when giving throttle if you do loose traction on a turn, you can still control the slide. I'm not a drifter by any means but I feel confident if I do push too hard. Wet, they suck but I don't race in events that require me to run wet so I'm good. Cold, they suck anything under 55°ish they dont grip but that's at my power level. I don't know under stock conditions. Just my 2 cents.
Stock v2 wheels with 255 rear and 245 front.
