Default Has anybody bent their 19s on a pothole???

A lot of ppl around here are saying I am insane for going 19 since Toronto roads are not exactly the best kept in terms of filling in potholes. My reasoning is 1)They are forged and are stronger than stock 2) although I will be running a 35 profile, my front and rear wheels will have a side wall comparable to Honda's running 205-40-17 (which I did on my Type R for a few years) which have no probs.

Now has anyone bent a wheel over a pothole? How bad? and Where? also if you got pics post them up?

things to consider

sidewall may be the same, but a wider rim means less support at the inner edge of the rim.

wouldnt count on forged taking it too much better if it does get hit.

youll probably be fine though.

I dont think NY is any worse than any other NE state. I am pretty sure Boston and MA in general is as bad if not worse. Either way it sucks.

Clearly, you've never driven on the Cross Bronx. That road ****n sucks. I drove it with my 19" Volks on, and had no problems. Wouldn't be surprised if an ADR would've bent on a bad pothole.

If you roll 19's on a daily driver long enough you will bend one. Price you pay to play the game!

If they can remove the lip, you can replace it.

they can fix it, and its cheaper to do than fix a scuff, I bent the hell out of my stock rims(on a curb not pothole) 1 was scuffed they said 200 250 to repair it. another that was bend, like 4" bent in they said 100$.

Thanks.. They took out a 4" bend for $100 thats amazing. In fact, a 4" bend is amazing. I thought the stock rims would crack before they bent.

no no they didnt take it out hah. since 2 were bend, and 2 were scuffed, not to mention 2 busted sidewalls, I didnt bother. hence the rays.

but yeah, it took a might big hit to the curb.

hey hey now..let's not forget chicago the windy city....even though i'm in the northwest burbs(15 min away)...as long as you know your roads...you're fine. The first week driving with my 19"s I was pretty much driving like a grandpa. I Observe the car in front of me to see the car's suspension make a sudden move(this would notify me to slow down and switch lanes etc. Do that and you'll be okay. I've hit some as well...they weren't to deep enough to hit my rims but "scared" me a bit. Fairly confident now...besides I stay a good distance away from cars in front of me just in case the "moron who isn't paying attention/driver" bumps me from behind to protect the engine area etc.

Are Monoblock Forged wheels i.e Volk Le37 TE37 repairable when being bent by a pothole, or would they have to be replaced?

I am not too worried about that. I have a friend who had SSR GT 17s on a 40 series and they bent too. Those are not the best SSR wheels out there. As my buddy put it brittle POS LOL. funny thing was that 1 bent and 2 were warped after 6000K.
