Hey guys, I dipped the rims on my 08 350Z this weekend. I sprayed coats of black until the rims were matte black, then several coats of ZTR Hypershift pearls in a high gloss top-coat, and then 2 thin coats of plain high gloss top coat on top. Here's some pics of the result, what do you guys think?
I'm not a fan of the color, but as long as you like it and are happy with it then that's what matters.
I definitely did overspray a bit on the tires, and managed to get most of it off, but the last little bit is the hard part, so I've still got some more to go. I'd definitely do a better job taping off next time to avoid this, but I rotated the wheels part way through and then was lazy and didn't retape well enough.
To each their own. I had hoped it would be a bit more orange, but I am pretty happy with it
Looks great - especially the way you sprayed the valve stems and lug nuts. You should do this professionally.
Well I'm going to take the dip off before I remove the wheel next, and I expect I can keep the dip in good enough shape on the valve when checking tire pressure. So I thought if I can spray them, then why not? I thought it would look better than having the original metallic surfaces showing. Guess not everyone agrees though.

Actually, I only dipped the rims, not the whole wheel. Yes, there is a little overspray left on the tire, but I'll be removing it.
And yes, paint is much more expensive than dip and requires much more skill to apply in a half-ways decent manor. Since I want something temporary that I can apply inexpensively, dip is a pretty awesome option.

Actually smart ***, the part you dip is the WHEEL. Not the rimZ.
The color came out good but I dont know about on a silver car...
Dont blame you for using removable paint if I had them nice *** factory wheels I wouldn't want to permanently screw them...
Nice.... Wheels, brakes, car...
One more note, if you ask for opinions your always going to get negative ones when it comes to plasti dip on here... If you just went into the what I did to my z today thread and said I changed the color of my dope nismo wheels (or track wheels) you would probably get better results.
