Default 18” wheels with 295/40 tires

Hey guys!

First time posting here. I have looked high and low, I cannot find a picture with a Z on 295/40 R18 anywhere. I have a set of Cosmis XT-206R and had 235/40 R18 and 275/35 R18 tires front and rear. When I lowered the coilovers enough to remove the wheel gap, the car was sitting WAY too low. It would touch EVERYWHERE. And any higher, it just looks bad cuz there’s a ton of wheel gap. I sold these tires now and I’m trying to figure out the best sizes to go with so I can have a very modest drop and minimal fender space. I’m thinking 265/40 R18 and 295/40 R18. Is anyone running a similar setup and can share some pics? Advice also welcomed!

Too tall. Stick with set that are closer to OE size (diameter wise) for sake of traction/VDC (if you have it) but also because those height tires raises the car 0.35" front and a whopping 0.60" rear....defeating the purpose of lowering entirely and creating more issue with rubbing.

255/40 front, 275/40 rear will set you up perfectly (heightwise) with minimal drop to reduce wheel gap.

I'll be doing a manual conversion soon with a VDC enabled front cut so I'll have VDC in the next few months. Right now I have TCS only. I understand your point! Keeping the diamater as close to the original as possible, thank you. I haven't found any pics of a 255/40/18 and 275/40/18 setup that was lowered, do you have any pics of a setup like this? I wanna get an idea of the clearance I'll have for speed bumps. Thanks for your repsonse btw! My wheels are 18x11 +8mm rear and 9.5x11+10mm front btw.

Height looks PERFECT though. Not too low/ slammed, no excessive wheel gap. How is your clearance over ramps and speed bumps and stuff like that? Does it drag a lot?

the art pipe resonator would rub on some larger speed bumps, but really no issues

Fantastic. Thanks so much. I'll definitely go with those sizes then, since they're much cheaper anyways. You can see the horrifc wheel gap I currently have below lol

some of it is because it is stretched, so the shoulder of the tire is pulled in. if you keep the same wheels, you will have some stretch so it wont be as squared up as mine was

I absolutely hate the stretched look, but it's all I was getting locally. I'm not from the US. I think I'll have to ship in a set of tires. Wondering now if 285/40 would be fine or to go 295/35 😥

you could get narrower wheels, but that means added expense. (i think that would really be the best option to square up the tire)

Here's what you need to make a comparo:

Stock size 18s:
225/45 25.97"/660mm
245/45 26.68"/678mm

Suitable Replacement 18s:
255/40 26.03"/661mm
275/40 26.68"/677mm

Rear Sizes you quoted:
285/40-18 26.98"/685mm (not too bad a fit)
295/35-18 26.13/663mm

But generically too tall and too short, respectively.

The rear wheel width is 279mm. A 275 will appear a very tiny bit stretched but works fine. These magic numbers have worked on Z cars for 18 years. If you're going to a larger contact patch, the 285/40-18 will be fine despite being a tad bit tall.

Default Yes

As long as their 114.3 pattern 5 lug they’ll fit, the 18.9.5 will be fine up front but might want to go a 18x10.5 or 11 in the rear unless you wanna run a spacer. 9.5 will look too sunken in the rear

Late to the party, but this is 9.5/265/35/18 FR, 10.5/295/35/18 RR. Slight drop with Eibach Pros.

Now looking at your car again it’s pretty low, do you scrape on speed bumps? I’m thinking to go with your rear setup (but 255/40 for the front) since it will most closely match stock diameters

are you certain these are 40? They look more like 35. But they look fantastic. I’d love to run these but I don’t have near enough power to justify it.
