it worked!
many did not believe it would be possible to put anything more than a 255 on the stock 18 8.0" not-track rims, i managed to fit some 265-40-18 bfg gforces on my stock rear 18s with no issues. definitely rethinking getting larger rims because these things hook!
Nice. I believe someone fitted some Nitto 275s in the back on his stock rims a while back and said they worked fine (although looked a big pudgy). I wonder if he ever ran into any problems...
no one said they WOULDNT fit. just its not reccomended. 265 is still in what Id say "acceptable". 275 or 285 would fit too but youd start getting a curve in the contact patch, and generally not be right.

I wouldn't ride in your car, but it's your life.

just because it's possible to do, does in no way mean it's safe to do.
for example, you can stretch a 245 tire onto a 10.5 inch wheel, it doesn't mean it's safe or correct.

well, cboost28 runs 275s on his front 7.5" rims for autocross, and you cant put much more stress on the tires than that, plus he is a national champion autocrosser, and I believe he ran the one lap of america with them too.
I'm running 265's on 8" wide rims for AutoX. Pretty average actually for most autoXers in the stock classes. Everyone tries to stuff as much rubber as possible on the stock size wheels.
Haven't had any problems yet, but not sure I'd go on a full track with them. Still thinking about that one.
I think after the ford/firestone fiasco (my personal opinion is that it was driver error), tire MFG's are way conservative with any rating they have. Doesn't mean that it is safe to ignore them, just that it may not be UNsafe to do so.

its amusing to see everyone say how it could come off in a high speed turn yet noone asks what i use these for. i mostly compete in drag racing, so theres not a whole lot of corners. not to mention that i rarely drive this car, usually im in my beater. i appreciate all you obvious concern but i feel the same as d'oh the tire mfg underestimate. now im of course not going to drop my tire pressures and go drifting, and i almost never drive over a 100 so i really dont see any risk at all in doing this.
