Default Getting rid of the bounce?

Ok since I am getting new wheels and brakes. I might as well do the suspension too. I plan to put 20's on the car. The one thing that I don't like is the bounce that the the stock suspension has.I have the touring model with the auto trans. What would you recommend as far as suspension upgrades? After this, it's going to time to buy some stuff to go faster. Thanks for the info.

Koni shocks will kill the bounce and you'll keep the performance of the oem linear springs intact.

Lowering spirngs will kill the bounce by using a progressive spring rate. Which one to get depend's on what drop amount you wish, what brand you trust and some are stiffer than others.

Coilover's will kill the bounce, and most use linear springs.
{edit} Have seen a couple review's of Tein Basic's where the owner mention's the bounce word.

The test will be two cars.

Both Stock 350Z

My friend Eric Hu will place back Stock Springs and install the Koni's
I will use Hotchkis Springs .8 Drop and Koni's

Eric will have three sets of Koni's for sale.

We will report back.

Cheers Amy -

Eibach's will eliminate the bounce, and drop the car 1 inch. The only drawback (minor), is that since they are progressive, they are a tad soft on turn-in. But the bounce is 90% gone, and the drop looks puuuuurfect.

I have just a base, stock 2003 with the 17" wheels, nothing fancy, daily driver. Picture attached.

Lowering isn't exactly a priority for me, though I suppose a bit lower never hurts the looks. My prime concern is killing the dreaded bounce.

You've listed three options above, and correct me if I'm wrong, but Koni shocks are hard to come by (???), but if you can find them they are roughly $600 for four? Coilovers probably aren't what I'm looking for. Lowering spirngs are probably the least expensive route to take and would also lower the car a bit as a small bonus (though as I said, that's not my prime concern).

Is this correct? If so, what exact product do you suggest, price, where to purchase, etc. ?

It would be nice if the dealer would address this problem (and I do see it as a problem), however it's my understanding that this isn't exactly covered. I bought this car used recently, and it's really the only thing I'd like changed (aside from the dash cupholder which seems to be stuck, but I don't drink in the car anyhow ).

Any guidance would be appreciated...

Well, Gsedan35, ultimateone just did a good review of the Basics on this site(unlike others), and he said the bounce was gone.

Honestly, when people mention the "bounce" what are they refering to? I know my car tends to porpose on the highway sometimes, but it doesn'y exactly bounce??

If you were to say, "Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh" in a long, monotone way, you'd be saying...

Yuh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh

It only happens with concrete freeway segments (I think). Unfortunately, there's plenty of that here in SoCal, but on regular freeways and roads it is fine.

Honestly, if you ever experienced it, you'd know it, no question. Kinda like an, "Ohhh that!" (Though it would be more like, "Oh-oh-oh th-th-that-at!")

Ha! Funniest description of the bounce yet.

Plus... you have explained why I have never felt it. The roads here in the North East very rarely use concrete like that.

Interesting.

I feel it on asphalt secondary rides here. I have ordered the Konis during BJ's presell and will have them installed with the stock springs. Probably add the 350Evo sways too.

AndyB, I'm actually a displaced Connecticut native and know the area pretty well. Grew up around Brandley Intl. area in a little town we liked to call Grand-berry (Granby). The N.E. doesn't have those concrete type freeways, *but* we don't have frost heaves More of a N.H. thing (which is where I learned a few things after high school).

jmark, I guess I joined the board after the whole "BJ's presell" thing, but will search for info about that. Me still thinks the springs would satisfy both no bounce and the cheap chicken in me.

I recently purchased the TEIN CS system which virtually elimated the ride hop. The ride is 100% smoother.
