Question Suggestions for dedicated track rims and tires?

I'm thinking about purchasing dedicated track rims (17"), and was wondering which rims people seemed to think are the best for the Z? Also, do most people keep the stock stagger or do they get even widths for all tires/rims? THanks in advance!

Most people have gone for even widths front and rear so that they can rotate the tires. 17x9" seems to be the popular wheel size...

get yourself some 17x9 or 17x9.5 Enkei wheels (RPO3, PRO2J, F1)

for tires you can run 275/40-17 all around and use Yokohama AO32R, or Kumho, or Hoosier.... depends on your budget...

I'm assuming even widths give the car more balance for more predictability?

I have enkie RPO2J's, 17x9 +35. This shot has my 245/40 victorracers front and 245/45 hoosiers rear. I ran this setup becuase I got a good deal on some used hoosiers. I also run 275/40 all around, and they fit with no problem with eibach springs.
As a comparison to stock wheels, 17x9 +35 with 275/40s stick out 8mm farther to the wheel well and are .3" shorter, so they should fit with your suspension also.

Newbie here,

Why run 9in wide front and 9.5 rear with 275 all around ?
You’d get better turn-in response with 9.5 front, less bulging of the tire.

And would’nt that affect the balance of the car anyways ? Running 275 all around, I imagine the car would oversteer a bit on the exit ?

not sure where the question is directed, but I run 9" all around with 275s. With cusco sways, it is fairly neutral.

Can anyone speculate why Nissan decided to stagger the tire widths in the front and rear? Is this so it would come off the line quick, while still having decent handling? I'm clueless about this stuff, i'm going to have to research it I guess.

I was refering to Audito350Z's reply.

I guess your stiffened sway-bars balances out the large front tires.

Nissan puts thinner tires up front to make the car understeer (safer for the masses). 275's all around balance out the car quite nicely.
I'm running 9.5 ssr comp-h all around with 275's.

what's the advantage.disadvantage with going 9.5" all around as opposed to 9" all around.

From all the videos I see it seems like the Z is a pig on the track. Do better suspension, wheels, and racing tires make up for it's pigish weight?

Too bad weight reduction makes the car look so ugly.

I went with 9.5 mostly because tirerack only sells 8.5 and 9.5. I'm glad I went with the 9.5 though because the 275 fits better than it would on a 9".
I haven't had a problem being a pig on the track. Torque and steam roller tires make up for the weight

For a given tire width, wider rims will give better turn-in response and better feel. The side wall being straighter.

Are you running the 17" or 18" SSR Comp-H? I'm assuming 17" with 275/40/17 tires, right?

So I'm assuming you guys change out your wheels every time you go to the track right? I have the 18" touring rims. How much do they weigh? I forgot.

I'm running MB Motorsports Comp 17x9 wheels with 275/40 Nitto 555R2's all around. The combo was less than $1500 shipped from Discount Tire. I went with the combo because the offset was right (+27mm) and it was relatively cheap. The combo is also around 46 lbs vs 56 for the stock wheel/tire. The tires don't seem to work to well when its cold (my only experience with them so far was autocrossing in 60 degree weather) but I'll be taking them to the track this weekend. I'll post a review on Monday night.
