Default Ordering today - 17" Wheel Upgrade (x8,x9), Are these tire sizes right?

Hello,

After much deliberation, I am going to be upgrading my wheels with aftermarket 17" rims rather than going to 18" or 19" rims. Most people reading this board know very well the fitments that they used for 18" or 19" rims, but not too many people have posted fitments for 17" rims.

My new rims will be Enkei 's at
17x8 Front Rims +35
17x9 Rear Rims +40

Most people running 17" rims are using 245/45/17 fronts which according to powerdog are off by -.7%. The problem is that the rear sizing doesn't seem to have the same standard. I have three potential fitments that have been posted, 265/40/17, 275/40/17 and 255/45/17 with respective changes in rear size of -3.4%, -2.2% and -.8%. I am inclined to go with the 275/40/17 fitment since blue liquid has been using that combination successfully (albeit on half-inch wider rims all-around), but the Tire Rack size of 255/45-17 has the closest percentage size differential from 17" stock.

I would appreciate any quick advice, since I will be confirming the order TODAY.

Id say 245/45 / 275/40

which enkei's are you going with?

what offset?

and what tires are you going for?

I would look at those wheel specs again the wheels are going to be tucked in way too much... I run 17x9 et 20 all around and need a 15mm spacer in the rear just to make it look decent.

If you are set on those wheel and tire sizes then get 245/45/17 front and 255/45/17 rear for best balance... or you could run 245/45/17 all around.

Or 265/40/17 front and 275/40/17 rear, but that would be overkill on your width wheels...

Jason,

Under current consideration are the Enkei RPM2's in a 17" fitment, but I would consider other lightweight name-brand 17" rims that have workable offsets. I like the Volks but they are a bit more than I want to spend right now.

Tires are anything other than RE040's that are inexpensive. In my case, HANKOOK VENTUS SPORT K104

ENKEI RPM2 Hyperblack
17X8 5-114.3 35HB
17X9 5-114.3 40HB

I forgot that you are the other sponsor who sells Enkei rims. My budget is under $1,500 for the set, and if you think you can put together a better 17" package, definitely let me know. I am planning to order today.

03Z33,
ohhhhh you might be right about the tuck. My winter 17x8 et38 do look tucked in a bit, but I was hoping that the 2mm in and +.5 inch out (+12.77mm out) would push it out enough. Do you have any profile pics of your Weds Sport Wheels (17x9 et20 (15mm spacer in rear) 255/40/17). Your cardomain page doesn't show the rear profile that clearly.

Thanks,
Eugene

Are you looking for HyperBlack?

I can get you a set of Enkei RPF1 in Silver with Offsets and sizes that will be flush for the Z...

How wide do you want to go?

We can do...

Enkei RPF1 17x9 +35mm 17x10 +18mm

Or if you are looking for something more for a budget we can do 17x9.5's all around with the same tire sizes all around so you can rotate the tires for more even tire wear...

4 17x9.5's will be $1180 regular price not including tires. I can get you Falken Tires too that will be very nice... 17x9's would be $1140 regular price...

I can definatly help you out...

Jason,
You have convinced me to look again at wheels and delay another day (damn you) I'm willing to hear you out on what you can do. I really like hyperblack and the new SBC coated wheels. Since I am price sensitive, color is of secondary importance to fitment and quality of the wheel for the price. I am also willing to go as wide as it is reasonable. 9 and 9.5 seem reasonable. 10 makes me wonder about fitment and fender rolling.

I think that the following RPF1's look very nice (yes I know they are bigger) Do the centercaps come with the ones you sell?

Talk to me more about the 17x9.5" with the same tire sizes all-around. People have been doing this for track purposes to reduce understeer, but I still wonder about daily driver TCS effects. Since I may be better off with some understeer, staggered should still be a consideration.

I am freakin' out a little bit with Raceboy's ordeal ordering the correct sizes.
Just a quick follow up note. I got my new front RPF1's today sized 17x8.5x40mm. I just finished test fitting them and they fit over the front Brembos with room to spare. It may seem counterintuitive that going to the 40mm would actually add more clearance, but this is a specific front wheel fitment. It actually clears with about 1/4" to spare. You can actually see how much more the spokes come out. They are pretty much flush with the outside edge of the wheel.
03Z33,
Thanks for offering pics if you had them.

Adman,
these are for daily driving (primary wheels), except in winter when the Blizzaks go on.

17x9.5 wont come in the SBC finish but only silver. Only a few sizes in 18 come with the SBC finish...

http://www.performancenissanparts.co...roducts_id=934

We can go with 4 x 17x9.5 +38mm. These will NOT rub in the front or the rear. We can put the same tire size on all around or put smaller in the front so the tires look like the stock tires how the front are slightly stretched. But, you can run 275 on the front and rear no problems.

I can put together a wheel and tire package for the 17x9.5 all around...

What kind of tires are you thinking of?

"Value" priced.

I'll PM you directly, since this selection of wheels and tires seems to be going higher than my budget.

HEUGE... just curious... are you going with 17s for weight reduction or for price? because you can get enkeis, in 18s AND in your price range including tires

although I suspect you're going for max weight reducation?

Strife350z,
Thanks for asking. I'm going for 17"s for price first and weight reduction second. The third reason is a little bit of wheel-size philosophy. If racers are going with 17" rims for the track, then there's no real reason except for looks to get me to go bigger. The fourth reason is fear (related a little bit to price). I was fortunate one time to drive Roger's car with 20" Maidos. As fantastic as the cornering was, I started to develop an insane fear of potholes, well actually any little rock in the road. At this time I am just more comfortable with smaller shoes, but I definitely want wider shoes.
