Default SSR Comp-H 18x9 265/35 (f) and 18x10.5 295/35 (r) -- on the car! Got contact patch?

Hey guys,

Tirerack came through with my SSR Comp-H's in silver/polished lip. The wheels look beautiful and are really nice pieces.

Luke assured me that the above would fit -- and it seems. Installed the wheels and did a few quick laps around the neighborhood, went up and done some drive ways to compress the suspension. No rubbing so far. All seems to be going well.

Here are the wheels:

SSR Comp-H

For tires I went with Kuhmo MX in 265/35 and 295/35. I have always liked Kuhmo MX because you get a ton of grip and aren't driven into bankruptcy by tracking the vehicle 4 or 5 times a year.

Handling has really be sharpened up a bit. But the best thing is the heavier streering. It's really nice.

I weighed the difference in the stock 17" wheel and tire versus my new setup. The rears were 60 lbs stock and 55 with the new setup (and that is increasing wheel by 1" in diameter, and 3" in width, and tires by 60 mm).

All in all -- I am quite please.

I will get some pics this weekend.

BTW, nothing is sticking out at all -- but the rear fender would probably need to be rolled if you wanted to slam the car (which I have no interest in doing). at most I am looking for a 0.75" to 1" drop when I get around to doing suspension.

Jason or anyone ... quick question.

To get the wheels to fit -- I had to remove a screw and spacer that were in the hat of the stock brake rotor. I had heard about this -- that it was an idiot screw to keep the service guys from putting the rear on the fronts.

I just took it out as my SSRs would not fit with it in. Any issue with that?

BTW Jason -- the Comp-Hs have a less agressive offset versus your Enkeis. Mine have +31 front and +43 rear. So I think the fitmet is a bit different. Now the question is -- am I running too close to the struts on the in board side?

spacer? just the screw and like i guess its a spacer under it...

that is only on there to keep you from putting the rear wheels on the front... i cant tell you how many peopl ehave managed to rotate their rears to the front at jiffy lube... they dont relize it till they come to our shop...

no issues your cool

On my car -- the screw was surrounded by a spacer to keep you from screwing it down too much.

These guys are doing one later this month ...

TCRA

But I don't know anything about them. I generally am picky about my track events. The last thing I want is some disorganized free for all with a bunch drifter idiots.

Maybe you could ask around -- I will check with some of the M3 track rats to see if they know anything about these guys.

But I am not sure if my car will broken in by then. Also, I have to get my brakes situation sorted.

See ... funny. I went to a TrackQuest event on big Willow and SpeedVentures was at streets at the same time. From what I could tell -- the SV event was basically so packed it was nothing but ducks in a row. And the idiot quotient attending their event was very high (given the number of idiots doing burnouts and doughnuts in the paddock). Also -- one guy in a Turbo 996 decided to leave SV and join us on the Sunday. He was a totally ***** driver and refused to listen to his instructor. I was in my E46 M3 at the time and he was holding me up at both Turn 2 and Turns 8-9 (he cold not carry speed through the corners worth a ****). Instead of pointing me by -- he wold just hold me up, then bury me on the straights -- Lame.

Best part was -- he was so dumb he took an "S" badge form the old 996 Turbo S and stuck it on his car (this was before the new 2005 Turbo S came out). I hate that crap.

So I guess -- I have a tainted perception of Speedventures.

The M3 guys don't f-ck around at the track -- and I know several that have used them.

I will probably move on to R-comps at some point (get a set of scuffed up Track Rays or something to put them on). But I want to get 4 to 6 more events under my belt before then.

Here bud -- put your worries to rest.

Do a search for "Kuhmo" at Roadfly.org under the E46 M3 board.

You see posts where both Snook and ChuckD praise the Kuhmo MX as a great double duty tire.

Just so you now -- Snook is a BMW CCA club racer (he has an E46 M3 Race Car -- weighing in at a svelte 2750 lbs). Chuck is a serious track rat with a stripped, but streetable E46 (3000 lbs). Niether of these guys would compromise on tires -- and both say Kuhmos are great.
