Stillen has them on sale right now for $439 and wondering how they perform.

 

I helped install them for a fellow G35 sedan owner (350Z D-specs, NOT G35 D-specs). I thought it was really odd even when set half way in the adjustment range that they still did not equal the shock stiffness to the oem 350Z shocks I run on my sedan. With how Tokico explained things, I would have thought a slightly lower setting would have equalled oem stiffness. The owner didn't want them to be as stiff as oem Z shocks, so it was just as well. But, I did get a chance to drive his car about 20 miles home and I can tell you that I'm very impressed with the valving. While I did not indulge myself to fling someone else's ride around, the overwhelming sensation was that a LOT of R&D went into the valving, much MUCH better then oem.

We set the shocks at 4 turns or 8 out of 16 levels. Since as I mentioned above, even that was not equal to oem Z shocks in stiffness, I have to wonder at what level do you set them at to get that kind of stiffness and beyond. Tokico says the D-specs can be set softer then oem, but they also say they can be set much stiffer then oem. We proved the softer part, but the much stiffer bit, maybe not. Still, the much better valving will net better performance.

I ordered the Tokico's from Stillen, I've been happy with their products in the past, and the price was perfect. Someone has to be the guinea pig!

 

No I sure haven't yet and I want to. If I come across anyone in the Nor cal area needing help on a Koni install, I'll help for free just for a test ride Pretty much that's how I got to check out the Tokico's.

I can answer the adjustment part. On the fronts all you do is pop the hood and put the adjustment key into the top of the shock piston shaft. Now, knowing that the Z has a strut tower bar in front, I'm not sure if that would be in the way or not. I'll run down to my Nissan dealer today and look at that. On the rear, unless you can pop open something to expose the top of the upper rear shock mount, you will have to pull the shocks off the car to access the top of the shock to adjust them. Now thankfully you do NOT have to remove the rear spring to do this, it's pretty easy to get the rear shock only out of these cars, but I would still consider doing it something of a pain.

Not sure if I got a bad batch of rear coil springs from Tockico or not, but my rear never dropped like it was suppose too The shocks are great and the ride is nice, but the damn rear end of my old Z never dropped to specs. I even had Tokico send me some new rear coils and the same damn thing. The car has been jacked up ever since...!! Front dropped perfectly though. I didn't add any parts and there was plenty of movement up and down in the rear, so it wasn't like it was getting stuck on anything. I just think the compression specs of the steel was off.

Maybe I should hit up Tokico for some new shocks for my 350 as a way to keep me from bad mouting them forever?

Did you set all 4 shocks at "4" setting? I'm going to put mine on next week finally along with my RSR springs. And to dial out some of the understeer, I was going to set the fronts at 5 and rears at 4 but now that you mention that it's that soft at the mid-level setting, I may just dial in 4 front and 3 turns in the rear. What do you think? HOwever, I have the shocks for the G35 though.

The Tokico D-Spec I found on stillen website is $642.11

 

If you were going to the RR/TI meet this Sunday in the Bay area then you could check out my Koni's. They are set on the softest setting but still give a nice firm ride without the harshness of OEM. Haven't had the time to put them to the test yet on the twisties.

 

 

look at the middle of the page on the stillen site, just under the black line. there is a comment saying the group buy price until 10/15. I got mine yesterday and installed them last night. They are awesome, from the litte driving I have done so far. Tokico recommends 5 turns from full firm, but 3 is a better starting point if you get them.

The shocks are for sale on Ebay pretty much 24/7 for $499 shipped. I know of at least 3 peple that bought them from that Ebay reseller, all good buying experiences.

When I go to Stillen's site I get a shipping cost of about $15, to be fare I'm in California just like Stillen. When I plugged in a NH zip code it was $30 for shipping so.

$439 + $15= $454
$439 + $30= $469

Maybe if enough of you call or email Stillen they can see fit to have another sale. Otherwise for $45 to $30 more you do have another way to get the shocks on Ebay. You might want to see if any of the sponcers on this board will match the Ebay deal, can't hurt.
