BEST Winter Tires?
Hey, i kno its a lil early for a thread about winter tires. but its never early to plan ahead! and plus, i need to kno, so i can start saving 
These winter tires will be used as a spare set for the winter on my OE 17". Only will be used in the winter months. And won't be used durin the summer/fall/spring. SO, Performance winter tires and high speed rating is not an ISSUE; as a matter of fact, i prefer NOT buying Performance winter tires b/c i want DEDICATED winter tires. I will be having some 19" Volks soon, these will be my non-winter daily wheels. And i don't want my Z to be rollin around w/19" volks and be skiddin everywhere and hittin curbs n gettin curb rashes. and this is my only car i have. ie daily driver. so i want the best tires so when the winter months rolls around. i will be prepared. and keep my baby safe!!
i have been doin some research on like tirerack and 1010tires.com. and yes, i did do a forum search, but most of them were last year. and im sure there r some new opinions on them. and there r more variety of snow tires now. but it seems like the best winter tires r the Bridgestone Bizzark or the Michelin Alpine. anybody have any experience in these or ANY other winter tires?? Feel Free to leave some feedback on your winter tires. I would like to know. Thanks

I drove for three winters on Dunlop DS-1's (mounted on steel wheels) on my Spec V. There were sweet unless it was above 30 degrees or you wanted to drive over sixty (Q-rated tires). They were unstoppable in the snow/ice, and I came in second in my class in ice racing with the local BMW club.
For this winter (my first with the Z) I bought some OEM 17"s (my car came with the touring 18"s) on ebay. Wrapped around those those stockers are Michelin Aplin-2's. They're v-rated, so there shouldn't be a problem with high speeds, and my friend had the alpin's on his car for the past two winters and loved them.
FYI--a friend has an Altima and we test fit his 16" factory wheels onto the front of my car to check brake clearance. As long as you don't have the Brembo's you'll be fine with those too.

thanks alot! tell me how those alpines workk whenever it snows. and how much are those alpines?? aren't they more expensive then the Blizzark??

I paid about $150 a tire for 225/50/17 (front) and $160 for 225/55/17 (rear). All told, with the wheels, installed, shipping, blah, it was $725 for the tires and $440 for the wheels, so it's not cheap. Of course, how cheap is a winter beater that always breaks, insurance, etc. Plus, you have to factor in the intangible cost of driving an absolute piece of **** around for five months...
I'll let you know how I make out after the first or second good snow in November/December.

Im gonna go with the WS-50 Blizzaks, I've heard of many going with the LM-22's because of the higher speed rating and better handling characteristics.
Since I'm in Rochester and will probably get owned by ice and snow I'm gonna go with the WS-50 (better for ice and snow. Especially since my buddy made it all winter in his s2000 and it did well.

blizzak ws50 and lm22s are great tires in stock sizing
go for the ws50 if you need a very agressive block-type winter tread for heavy snow/ice
go with the lm22s for a performance oriented winter tire that will handle well in the dry and give you decent performance in light snow/slush
I looked at these tires a lot before going w/ current setup... 215/60/16 toyo G02+ observe winters at all four corners... I would say, having used blizzaks in the past, that these perform as well if not better than the ws50... it's not a performance winter like the lm22, but it definitely bites and I've had no problems driving through pretty heavy snow/sleet... and the 16s w/ the toyos actually cost me less than a set of four lm22s
