Default Need Opinions: HRE 542R or HRE 543R?

HRE 542R

HRE 543R

I will be buying a set of HRE rims for my Z and I have narowed it down to the 542R and 543R. I have searched high and low for pics of the 350z with these exact model HRE rims and came up empty. So I need some help with my decision.

I did however find pics of both these rims on 911TT.

HRE 542R

HRE 543R

Between the two i would say the 543. I'm not much for curved spokes, even though it does look really good on the 911. Maybe it would look good, i just cant picture it. You should pick whatever wheel you like best though.

If you like both the same, pick the lighter of the two. I got HRE's myself. You have an option I didnt have and that is they make a racing wheel now that is much lighter then one ones you are looking at. Call HRE in Vista Ca. and talk to them about it to see which designes are availible. Maybe one of them you like comes in the lighter design?

Remember, for every 6 lbs you drop on wheel weight it is equal to approx. one hp so why not get the performance benefit and the look of an HRE 3 pc wheel at the same time?

Good luck, Jeff

On the 911TT, the 542 looks better because the bumper and sideskirts have some hard angles. The 542's flow well with these.

The Z doesn't have these angles, so I can't tell how well it would look. Have you tried photoshopping these rims onto a Z? You may want to ask our resident PS experts for help.

BTW, great choice on rims. I just recently joined the HRE club as well... HRE 546R

Yes I did ask to get the 542R's photoshoped. I wish I had a better pic at this required angle because its hard to tell.

My vote goes to the 543's

The 542's look like huge fan blades and will probably look better on a bigger car. I've seen these wheels in person on an E46 m3. They got away with it because they colored the centers.

I believe you're going to leave yours brushed?

Haha... thanks!
The first time he had them up, I didn't have the money. The second time they came around, I still didn't have the money...

But I bought them anyway!

I just didn't have the money.

But now I'm green with envy. I have a silverstone with those same sideskirts. They simply look great. Please post more pics when you get the chance!

I never knew there were "Competition" wheels that were light weight. The HRE website has been broken all week and I can't access their wheels section so I got limited info on these thru google.

Looks like the C21 would be my choice.

Someone took some pics of the HRE line at SEMA and the wheels did not look like traditional HRE wheels. I'm guess they're the new racing series. Might want to scour throught he SEMA pics you might find it.

WOW.. thats an amazing chop and looks alot better than I thought it would. Now I need a chop with the 543's. How hard is it to chop rims onto a pic anyways?

I really need to learn this. The last thing I wanna do is spend $5k on rims before I see how it looks on the Z.

here are the 543s

in broad terms, in PS use the marque tool, right click and use transfrom selection, select the wheel only, copy the wheel from the source pic, then paste into the base pic.. again use marque tool, then right click and use free transform to size it and rotate it, repeat for the other wheel.. result is a simple chop
