What is this gizmo on my keyfob?
My mum bought me a 350z because I'm awesome. It has a mysterious keyfob on the keychain that intrigues me. It looks like this:
Behold my keys.
Anyone know what it does? I'm talking about the pointy looking bottom key thing. There is a slot on the dash for it, but it doesn't seem to do anything and I can still drive without it. Can't find anything about it in the manual.

Welcome and lucky, bloody you for having such an awesome Mom. As for the mystery keyfob, I have no idea what it's for, but it looks like an aftermarket device. Nissan does make a nice keyfob for USDM Zs that allows you to lock and unlock your Z remotely, as well as pop the rear hatch without using the hidden button in the rear.

Aftermarket anti-theft (starter kill) device that splices into the BCM wiring. It was installed by the dealer when the car was new. Many dealers install these on every car because they are very high margin items. Dealers pay about $30 for these and sell them for $249 to $500. If the original buyer doesn't want it, they don't remove it, they just deactivate it. I recommend removing it completely. To do this, you need to actually un-install it. You can't just cut it off. I've had cars come into the dealership that were acting like they had a bad BCM. Turned out it was just this little bugger was acting up.
