Testers Needed: KPtechnologies Push Button Start

Although this product is still in the development stage here is some information about this much anticipated module from KPtechnologies (www.KPtechnologies.com):

Control Module:

Control Module:

OEM Style Pushbutton:

What we have here is the developmental KPtechnologies 'Stage 2' Push Button Start system. This Stage 2 module still requires the use of the OEM key and transponder (Stage 3 is completely stand alone and is still in the engineering phase).

The module is centered around a 'smart' control module that has a dedicated 20mhz central processor. The processor monitors various inputs and controls all the outputs that allow this module to seamlessly integrate with the vehicles ignition system.

Through the push button, not only can the driver START the car, they can also STOP the car. Various LEDs on the button provide constant feedback as to the status of the system (LOCK, ACC, ON).

The module also contains a sophisticated 'self program' feature that automatically programs the module for the specific installation at hand. Programmable features include internal or external "LOCK" LED triggering and the ability to turn tachometer monitoring on or off. The LOCK LED can flash with the OEM LED if desired, or can be flashed by the internal processor. The tachometer 'on' mode is nice because it prevents the starter from cranking if the motor is running (a nice safety feature).

The development of this module is about 90% complete and it is ready to be installed in a test vehicle for further evaluation. All features listed above are currently working, with the exception of the tachometer monitoring (the hardware is working, but the control routines still need to be developed). We hope to send the first field units out to our testers in Early September.

The target price for the Stage 2 module is ~$150 for all the parts to install it (module plus 2-3 relays). We are hoping to release the product to the public before the end of the calendar year.

Besides this Push Button start module, KPtechnologies offers a wide range of custom electronic products. All of our products are engineered and manufactured in-house in the USA.

Please check out www.KPtechnologies.com for more information about OEM window up modules, VDC/TCS memory modules, auto lock modules, Navi OK bypass modules, Electronic Beep modules, Mirror Tilt modules, etc.

At this stage of the development we would love some feedback, thank you!

The target price for everything is $170 (control module, button, relays).

The button itself is $30 from the dealership, and that doesn't include any wiring or harnesses!

I'm just curious what the point is if you still have to put the key in.

Fantastic! So you and Greg are collaborating on this module?

I will be one of your first customers when this comes out. The details sound fantastic so far.

What is the point of so many of the mods we do? Individuality and a to the wonders of technology.

I'm curious to know the details on how it works, and difference between stage 2 and 3. Will the key still have to be inserted?
I like the keyless go on some cars in that you don't have to take the key out of your pocket, the proximity sensor just senses it.

Read his post. Stage 3 is the fully-independent unit not requiring a key to be inserted, much like it works in the new Altima.

The ultimate goal is to provide a module that doesn't require a key to be inserted and turned (stage 3). Stage two is a stepping stone to get to that point. However, from a technical standpoint, stage 3 will be MUCH more involved and much harder to install (you have to defeat all the OEM security features, then add new security features to replace them). Stage 3 will NOT be a DIY type module, whereas stage 2 should be doable by most people comfortabe with car wiring.

So, this stage 2 module will be for those who like the look and function of a push button start system but either don't want to go through the hassles of installing a complete stand alone system or they don't want to give up the OEM security (mechanical wheel lock and transponder system).

No, this is solely a KPtechnologies venture. Although the actual pushbuttons are identical our control systems are night and day different.

What details would you like to know?

The stage 3 version will have an included keyfob. You will have to set the keys close to the receiver to trigger the module. I don't have anything finalized on this yet, but most likely the receiver will be mounted under a cup holder, and you will drop the keys in the cup holder to turn the ignition on.

Very cool! I had some of your products in my G (wish I would have taken them out when I sold it-didn't know I was going to buy a Z 2yrs later).

If you need a Z guinea pig, PM me. I'm a couple hrs away!

This is a completely universal module. It should work with any car on the market.

from the Pics it looks like you have a cat5 cable going to the push button... Does an adapter come with the kit to plug into the push button? with the cable? Looks cool!

So with the stage 2 I would not lose the security feature that the key provides? I think that would be the way to go for me.... Will this also work with any after market alarm?
