The push button is hard wired and sealed at the button side. At the module side there is a plug.

I'm a bit surprised that no one has asked yet, but 'stage 1' is just the wired button by itself - you supply the control module.

why would anyone want stage 1 lol.

My only question is this:

(wait, two)

1 - can you still start the car with the key

2 - how far do you have to turn it before you can use the push button, or does it just need to be inserted.

... I am picturing a porsche type system where they are on opposite sides of the column super cool project guys.

Needs to be turned to ACC position to turn the accessories on and prime the fuel pump. Then the button is pushed which sends the pulse to the starter and starts the car (basically replacing the final, spring-loaded twist of the key).

There are 'do it yourself' type people out there that will only want the button. You can buy them from the dealership, but they have no wires on them and no harness is availible. We are also going to offer buttons with different color back lights (green, blue, red, etc). So, if you decide you want to change colors down the road you have that option.

Actually, the key has to be turned to the 'ON' position.

If in the 'ACC' position the 'ACC' LED on the button will light up and the push button will NOT be active.

When you turn the key to the 'ON' position the buttons LEDs will flash between 'ACC' and 'ON' indicating that the push button is now active. Once you push the button and start the car the 'ON' LED will remain illuminated indicating that the car is running. With 'ON' LED on steady the next push of the button will shut the car off.

You can still start the car with the key, just like normal. If you have the tach sense hooked up the module will automatically know the car is started and jump to the 'ON' position. If you arn't using the tach mode then the lights will continue to flash between 'ON' and 'ACC'. You can 'fix' this by quickly pressing and realeasing the button, which will force it to change states without actually turning the starter output on. I'll get some videos here soon, it is really straight forward and driver friendly.

I may have missed it, but how long until Stage 3 is ready and how much do you think it will cost?

Well, we are focused on getting Stage 2 done. Stage 3 will be completely different and much more involved, so I would guess it would come 6 months after Stage 2 is released.

The added cost of the RFID system, the transponder bypass, the need for a bigger processor, and more relays will drive the cost of the system up substantially, most likely $100 - $150 more then Stage 2. However, talking about that module is a bit premature as the only thing we've got done for it so far is the RFID portion.

My mistake, I meant to say "On" above, not "Acc". I always mix those two as being the last step before the engine is cranked.

By the way, Kevin, you mentioned the fail-safe for cranking the starter while the engine is already running, but what will keep the engine from turning off if someone accidentally hits the button while on the road? Is it linked to the e-brake or something?

The same thing that will prevent the car from stopping if someone reaches over and physically turns the key off!

You can't 'accidently' stop or start the vehicle with the button, as you have to physically hold it down for a brief period before it will engage either circuit.

The buttons themselves are constructed in a manner that make them very hard to unintenionally push. I believe the construction of the button with the extended push requirement will make it very unlikely that the vehicle is accidently stopped.

There shouldn't be any issues with an aftermarket alarm at all.
