Viscous LSD Swap?
Hey everyone,
I recently heard from a friend that I may be able to get a deal on a 2004 350z Viscous LSD that I can't pass up (less than $100). The problem is that I don't know how many miles it has. It still locks up when turning one side but I don't know if it does under load because the car is not drive-able.
Are there other ways to check if the viscous fluid is still good with the diff. out of the car?
Is it really impossible to change the viscous fluid / rebuild a viscous diff.? Any way to drill and tap the sealed housing?
I eventually plan on getting an aftermarket lsd but I don't have the money right now. I am looking for something that would be fun to play around with on a mostly stock engine.
Thank you!

change the fluid, yes (you'll need to fill it when swapping it anyway)...rebuild, no (don't think so / never heard of it). For $100, take a shot, specially if you would do the swap.
PS - I'm assuming you're referring to the entire pumpkin w/VLSD.

Dude just buy it and put it in. Worse case scenario is you take it back out and reinstall your open diff.
The swap isn't too difficult and $100.00 is a great price.
But you could always take off the cover and check the condition of the fluid etc.

True haha I'll probably just try it out. It would be the whole unit and I would be removing it from this Z and installing it in mine.
I've never seen inside a vlsd, from what I understand the viscous fluid is not accessible nor replaceable and doesn't last extremely long?

The fluid from the case is completely separate from the VLSD carrier. The VLSD part is not serviceable and there is no way to tell how much more it sucks than a perfectly working VLSD.

If you don't mind. I just put a stock vlsd in my base and I certainly feel a difference.
What more could I expect from a real lsd. I do feel a slight delay from the rear when cornering. Is that delay removed with one?

not to mention, two solid tire marks... even with the stock vlsd, you are still pretty much a one wheel wonder

night and day difference, my car had the vlsd and i came across a pumpkin with the quaife diff for $300 and my pumpkin. with the quaife when you went around a corner, it pulled you around it.... when i deliberately slid it, it was easily controlled

I went from VLSD to OS Gikenin my touring and installed the VLSD in my base. From open to VLSD in my base I could feel it slightly , from VLSD to OS in my touring , it was night and day. The car felt slow because the tires were actually gripping.
