Dual Mass or Single
For the real mechanics on here, pulled the trans in my 05 to replace throw out brg. (Squealing on cold start up) Replacing clutch and pressure plate also. Found out I have the dual mass flywheel. It appears ok, question is this for those who have done this. Will replacing the dual mass with regular flywheel change anything as far as smoothness. Love what I have now but Nissan's $1400 price for one is not happening. I do OEM only. So before I stick trans in let me know what you have done. Pos. Or Neg. And no, It does car shows only, shop parked rest of the time.

Well, if you insist on doing OEM only, you're stuck with a dual mass flywheel. Nissan engineers spec'd the dual mass flywheel because the found the VQ really liked rotating inertia for top end output. My Z33 SCCA race car is limited by the rules package to using the OEM dual mass flywheel in the VQ35HR and it does fine in the Touring 3 class it competes in. After trying several types of flywheels (including the legendary Tilton single mass flywheel with dual disc racing clutch), I settled for a generic single mass aftermarket flywheel when I had to swap one out of my street '03 track model. While it's about 10# lighter than the heavier OEM flywheel, the biggest factor was the cost. At $176 back in 2020, it fit what I was looking for in a budget setup.
It's not as easy to use as a dual mass clutch, and requires a lighter touch and good feel for the friction point. It's easier to rev match on downshifts with the lighter weight and quicker response, but I doubt the top end on the VQ35DE is as good. Tradeoffs are what you get when deviating from OEM parts, so I hope this helps answers some of your questions.
