Default Why Are Bucket Seats So Small?

I don't get it. Are there really no seats big enough for people that are 6' and up?

I was looking into getting a new seat. I have always liked Bride seats, but after researching I would not be able to buy a Zeta iii because they are too short. This is understandable, Bride seats are designed for the smaller Japanese market. Alright. But after researching, I come to find that there is maybe one or two seats that are tall enough for me. Right now I have a Corbeau fx1 pro, and the top of the headrest only comes half way up my head. I guess I lucked out when I bought this seat because this is one of the tallest seats that I can find. All the other bucket seats I look at are all significantly shorter than the fx1 pro, other than the EVO II, which is like half an inch taller or something. So far these are my only two options it seems. All the other seats I look at would give me whiplash if I got into an accident, because the top of the seat would not come up high enough.

I'm not out of proportion or anything either. I'm 6'1" 170 lbs and a 33in waist. Is there a trick to this? Or are all seats really meant for short people?

The seat pad on the FX1 can always be cut thin, I believe Corbeau offers them already thinned out.

You can always just rebuild the padding in your seats. That's what I did. My seats were very uncomfortable, so I bought some very soft memory foam from Sunmate in 1/4 thickness and layered it up to whatever thickness I needed in the bucket, then put the cover back on and voila. Much more comfortable.

I originally had the seat in my 240sx, but now I have to sell the seat along with the 240. I was hoping to get something new that was fia approved ( bride is an exception) so I can do autocross in the future.

Not many choices, I just went thru the OMP and Momo specs , the FX1 pro is the tallest so far. It's actually what I run in my car too. Kirkley may also be a great option for you

I know a couple of 6' something people who just pull the butt pads out completely from Bride seats and ride on the shell. I wouldn't advise it though.

Personally I don't like the aesthetics or way Corbeau seats feel as a whole so I couldn't comment on the FX1. Have you looked into the Sparco Pro 2000s? I believe the headrests go higher on those then most other brands.

I think some people here are just a hair lost on what this conversation is actually about. Headrest height, how tall the seat is, taller seats are safer for most, taller seats are also really needed for some of us. Buddy club seats headrest would strike me just under mid skull, screw that , even with a helmet on I wouldn't risk it.

I know there is a containment seat with removable wings, containment seats usually sit really high. I will see if I can find it. Also some Sparco seats seem to fit my height.

Btw, I'm 6'1 170 with a 34 inch inseam , basically the same size as the OP

So I ended up ordering an EVO 2, which came in the mail today. This thing fits perfect. The headrest is fine, shoulder bolsters are spot on, and it is comfortable. I went to put it in my car aaaaaaaaaaand it doesn't fit. How is there literally only one seat on the market that is tall enough and fits in the 350z? This is ********.

QUESTION: How do the stock seats measure up as to function and size requirements for six-foot+ drivers?\

Is the problem seat belt anchoring-positioning?

Stock seats are fine, there are no shoulder bolsters and you can raise the headrests

Got it… Thanks for the reply.

I recovered my stock fabric seats with leather; result is perfect for appearance and fitment. As you point out, the headrest is adjustable.
