Default Steering wheel air bag removal

Hello 350z Owners,

So i recently bought a NRG quick release steering wheel setup and got instructions from my350z.com in the DIY section. Somehow the torx 30 air bag screws that hold the airbag stripped when i tried to unscrew them by hand. Is there a easy solution to removing them.

Thank you,

Short answer is NO. How badly are they stripped?

Let me just tell you, you are in for hell. I stripped those torx bolts as well. It was a complete nightmare removing those things. Here's what you will want to try and do first:

-Cut a slit in the head of the bolt with a dremel and use a flathead

-if that doesnt work, go ahead and cut up the plastic piece behind the airbag because you'll have to at this point. then try and get a really good vise grip on the bolt and turn.

-if that doesn't work, then do what i did, drill through the head of the bolt.

good luck! i'll pray for you. you're about to experience some very frustrating times.

While I dislike taking any thread OT, let's hope anybody trying to take out airbags has disconnected the battery and drained the electrical system. Nothing like having your head right next to an explosive device you're trying to work on.

Exact same *uckin thing... Be very careful when you drill them out. I had my wife on stand by to call 112.

Quality tools and there is no problem with them. If you have a quality driver and know how to use it, they will not strip.
