Question 06 Convertible Top Install Issues

Hey guys,

I decided to tackle the job of replacing my convertible top myself. As everyone says the job was long and tedious. I am running into a few issues after I got everything installed. The top doesn't latch all the way back onto the lid. There is about a half inch gap between the back top and the top cover. Would this be due to stretching or did I simply not getting the fitting right?

Another thing I am running into is the two window mounts on either side of the rear window seem to be pushing against the top. I am not sure if that is normal (maybe just need to give the top time to stretch) but you can clearly see it in the pictures.

I know everyone says that the top needs at least a week to stretch and get to it final point I just want to make sure it will seal up correctly when it is all finished.

Thanks for the helps guys

~Stephen

Link us the top you bought, doesn't appear to be the OEM replacement.

Default Top

Here is a link to the top I bought.

Do you think it would be something off with the top itself?

It could very well be, I can't find and reviews good or bad about that seller. It's usually bad if you can't find ANYTHING on a seller for something like this, but I'll wait for someone who knows roadsters to go from here.

give it time to stretch, problems may or may not resolve themselves

Never done a ZR top, but I've done it several times on my Alfa Spider's and a few times on XKE's. Park the car in direct sunlight and let the material relax and stretch. Some minor adjustments may be necessary.

Tag for interest. As mine will probably need to be replaced in the near future.

Thumbs up

Update: Been little over a week and the top has stretched pretty well. I am not sure if it would be a water tight fit though. I am going to give it another week or so and then test it all out with a good wash. Will post pictures of the top around then.

Thanks again for the info guys.

Default Update

Hey guys,

Sorry for the late update. I unfortunately was hit rear-ended last month so it has kinda delayed the updates.

The top works great and is water tight. Took about 3 weeks or so to stretch out in the 100+ degree heat but overall I am happy with the project considering I only had a few youtube videos to go off of.

The one thing I can say that is the top is pretty noisy. Without the radio on in the car you can hear the air rushing over the top at anything over 50MPH. It's not bad when I have music on but I do listen to my music fairly loud.

My suggestion would be to spend the additional money on a cloth top. If you're young like me and don't mind the little freeway noise then this top is a great quality and a great price.

If anyone would like any suggestions for replacing the top or needs any help feel free to shoot me a message.

Thanks again for all the help guys.

See you all around
