Hey guys, bought a 350z with a ticking engine. I'm having the startup rattle issue, but the engine is making a ticking noise as well when rpm increases. At idle it works fine but once I increase rpm, it starts to tick. The higher the rpm the faster it ticks. I know the tensioner must be changed to fix that noise but i was wondering if the ticking noise could be the tensioner. What do you guys think?

 

The "ticking noise" you are hearing might be from the valves and/or lifters.

Do you have any color in the exhaust?

 

none that i know of. The previous owner said the rattle at startup and the ticking noise came at the same time.
