Default Brembo Gold Paint

I know that there are a few posts about this but I've got a specific question about this. I'm painting the calipers on my motorcycle (currently silver, to hopefully the brembo gold) and was wondering if this is all I need to do it:

2001 Honda Civic Inca Pearl Y-61P Touch Up Paint Spray Can Kit - Original Factory OEM Automotive Paint - Color Match Guaranteed : Amazon.com : Automotive 2001 Honda Civic Inca Pearl Y-61P Touch Up Paint Spray Can Kit - Original Factory OEM Automotive Paint - Color Match Guaranteed : Amazon.com : Automotive

I've heard from some that this is dead on and others say its not. Luckily I'm not trying to match the color to fix chips so something close would be great. Anything else I need to do it?

Thanks!

Regardless of the color match, which I think is way off, BTW, that paint really isn't your best choice for brake calipers. Hint: brake calipers can get really hot.

Any recommendations then? On paint and color? I'd rather not spend an arm and a leg on it either...

Why not check with a local powdercoat shop? As small as most bike calipers are, it's not going to cost much. Look into a prismatic gold type of coating. Some a really close to Brembo gold.

Almost forgot, if you had used that paint you originally asked about, brake fluid would cause it to bubble and peel off, even if you spilled just a tiny amount during bleeding. Powdercoat is resistant, but if you're going to use paint, get something specifically for brakes, so it isn't damaged by brake fluid or heat.

ok sounds good. I can do powdercoating myself. I was going to paint them just because I havent found a powdercoating that has a metalic look...

I'll check that out though...

But my plan was if i didnt like it just use the brake fluid to strip it off. haha

My calipers are painted and I've had no issues with them. My car gets tracked, autocrossed and driven hard. They were painted two years ago

What paint did you use? Normal or brake paint or engine paint? I'm thinking about VHT Brake caliper paint and just using the gold...

http://www.vfrdiscussion.com/forum/i...er-paint-gold/

something that will match this guy's caliper

Will I need to clear coat it to look like this? Or is this non-clear? This is basically what I'm looking for

On the VHT website, it shows 4 different cans you can buy. Cleaner, primer, the color and the gloss. I'm thinking about doing this also. I'll more than likely go with the primer, the color and the gloss. Or going with the G2. I bought the Humbrol 54 and it looked like spit. All the powder coaters I've contacted are asking to completely disassemble my brembos, I don't feel any comfort in doing that.

PC is not a very good option on brake calipers too because it retains heat (look at any real race caliper and it will be anodized, not coated). Most of the PC companies will want to media blast the caliper bodies to get the powder to adhere, and don't trust you to seal them up well enough to keep media out of the bores. I talked to one place that wanted $200+ per caliper for a heat-shedding powder and prep.

FWIW, factory Brembos are painted, according to the Porsche guys who have talked to Brembo. The Porsche guys have had good luck with VHT, non-cleared. I have a set of calipers that will get some VHT paint here soon, but it's too cold to do it right now. They need to be baked in an oven for a couple hours at about 200°F afterward, and then apparently they get quite a bit glossier.

Keep in mind too that motorcycle calipers are a different application to road car calipers for 2 big reasons: The amount of kinetic energy they're dissipating is a lot less (less heat) and they're mounted in direct airflow, which will keep the outer surface much cooler. High temp paint might not even be necessary.
