Intense Motorsports: 1013rwhp / 876.32 torque at 29psi 4.2L Stroker 350z

After a lot of hard work we have finely hit the 1000rwhp mark with the Z. This has been a long and hard road to get to this point and could not have been done without the expert knowledge from the guys at Intense Motorsports. We started out at 600rwhp at 9psi and moved up from there slowly. When we got to 970rwhp at 24psi we had traction problems on the dyno so we switched to slicks. This with the added weight from a few guys helped keep the tires from loosing traction on the dyno.

Reaching the 1000rwhp mark did not come without some problems! My Tilton twin disk carbon clutch started slipping right from the beginning. Intense removed it and shipped it to Tilton to have rebuilt. Because I had Intense under a very tight deadline and would not get the Tilton clutch back in time we got a Carbonetics Triple Disc Carbon Clutch so we would not miss the deadline. The Carbonetics clutch started to slip around 970rwhp so we were forced to wait for my Tilton to get back. After the Tilton was back and reinstalled we got the Z back on the Dyno.

Now it was time to push the boost to 29psi and go for it. I got a call from Intense asking me if I wanted to try for the 1000hp mark. This may sound like a funny question but when you have more the 80K invested in the motor it is not an easy decision to make. I went through all the questions an owner is going to ask. “How are the temps?” and “How does the motor sound?” and a hell of a lot more but you get the idea. All looked good so I gave the okay to move on. By this time it was getting late so I went to bed. Around midnight I get a call from Intense with both good and bad news. I was told the car made 1013rwhp but at the end of the run a coolant pipe popped off and coolant went everywhere. Not a good thing to happen because coolant pipes don’t just pop off. Talking to Intense about the issue I told them to take out the motor and find the problem. Of course our worst fear is a sunk sleeve. Now that Intense has taken the motor out and the head off it looks to be a bad Cometic head gasket. Visually the sleeve does not appear to have sunk but they are going to make sure. I will let everyone know as soon as I find out.

You can see by the dyno chart where the gasket went. I know the car has a lot more left in it we just need to get the motor back together before we can find out.

Hey Chris, congrats man, i know its been lots of work and time but your Z is truly bad ass. The twin gt37r turbo kit is amazing and with the size of piping is amazing the work that was necessary to make your car streatable with ALL accessories working. The curve is amazing too, it just shoots up, it tells how efficient the kit is and that there is a lot of room for more power at higher PSI....

Tom: the radiator support was custom wrapped in CF
