Unhappy It Cracked

well, i'm officially part of the cracked fam now. popped the hood tonight to show my friend my new kinetix plenum, and heard a whistle. closer inspection revealed a pretty big crack where the screw goes into for the front center support post. guess i'll try and get my stocker on soon, and eventually send this back. sounds like i should get it sometime this year, from what i have heard about the guys orderin new. frown.

had it on for a few weeks. i guess it's a known issue, cause i've heard of a newer, tougher plastic that they're usin now.

it was probably the batch that got sent out with the thin wall, around the top of the plenum, by the front of the screw hole.

Since the plenum has lifetime warranty, it will be covered.

It does sound like it was part of the bad batch, I have had mine on for a over a month and no cracking problems and put on a few hundred miles this weekend to go to Zfest and the long drive didn't seem to cause any problems, it was amazing how you could touch it after a long drive and only be warm while I couldn't touch anything metal in the engine bay.

yeah, i mean i'll still try out a new one. crawford's is just too expensive with the different strut bar and charge of keeping my core.

Sorry to hear this. I still don't understand the theory behind a plastic plenum anyway?

I went with a modified metal pleunum and have had no problems so far. The problem with products like this is that the people who first buy them are also the guinee pigs in finding product flaws.

I think the Kinetix plenum looks cool, but I just don't trust its durability.

I don't think my Crawford was "expensive" and it has never cracked FWIW.

You want "expensive" slap an ATI on that thing!

You make a good point here (I wouldn't have used your words, but the point is made)

Considering the alternative, I don't think the crawford is that expensive either. It'd be one thing if the Kinetix didn't perform as well, but for it to all out fail is pretty lame. =\

That being said, i don't have either product and I give huge bigups to kinetix for having the ***** to pursue this when everyone else just complained.

BigShow, same happened to me if you remember. My first one (v.2) was really thin in the middle front. My new one is much thicker.

As a side note, warranty returns are getting priority. I got authorization to send mine in on a Thursday. I sent the package on friday and sent Jamison a email with the tracking number. HE SHIPPED THE WARRANTY REPLACEMENT SAME DAY! I got the replacement the following Wednesday. Not saying he does this for all, but he did for me.

I just purchased his new version 3 which is just getting released. It's suppose to be made of some newer tougher plastic, and reinforced where it was weaker before to ensure no cracking. It's actually intended for the F.I engines...

I'll let you know when I get it.. should be here Monday latest.

I have had my V2 on for nearly 1 month now, and not a crack in sight - i am continually happy with its performance.

I am still going witht the theory that it's the slf installs causing the problem, not the plenum itself, though it is refreshing to see Kinetix stepping to the plate and offering a warranty on them and an upgrade to a newer version should a problem exist - warranties in the aftermarket are a rare, but welcome commodity!
