Exclamation M/D 1/2" Spacer Questions

Does anyone have any up front experience with this spacer?

I purchased it on X-Mas.... I'd like to know what the A/F Ratio is supposed to be at.....

Also what is the point where the VQ is running dangerously lean ??

All MOTOR

NOT F.I.

I'd like to know prior to my install....

Thanks Eric.

BTW, I will be doing a write up on the 1/2" spacer with the ISO thermal....

Complete Write Up from pull to pull.....

umm did you think about the strut bar/hood spacing? does it clear it? or are you going to use the washer on the hood/strut trick?

There is no factory strut bar for the G35, the 1/2" spacer fits under the hood of the G35 without any issue.

Ok Ladies and Gentlemen....

Here are the preliminaries…

On the 29th I took Her to the Dyno to test the ½ inch spacer….. I just wanted to see the safety factor and the power as it is…..

Straped the car down and did 3 pulls…. All 3 the A/F was RIDICULOUS…. Why ? ….

Well because there was a boosted car ahead of me and he was tuning it pig rich…… clogged the filter….. So I went back on the 2nd ( last night ) to re-check… yet it was a 75 mile drive from Homestead to the dyno and I was somewhat in a hurry to find out what the real deal is…. So I drove and avg of 90mph and some stop n go traffic….. We checked temp with a laser reading measurement tool and observed some spots of the plenum @ 135 degree’s and most of it in the excess of 180…… It was HEATSOAKED….

No time to cool off and did 3 pulls…. I never took it to redline because I was in a hurry….. I just wanted to re-test to check A/F Ratio….

On the 6th I will re-test yet with the car at NORMAL operating temps….

I will do 3 pulls with the Spacer removed and the car @ stock configuration

(Z-Tube and K&N Drop in Filter)

Re-Install the M/D Spacer and 3 pulls

(Z-Tube, K&N, ½ Spacer)

Yet for the meantime here are a few dyno pulls:

As you can see the A/F was WAYYY OFF yet the power curve stayed the same = faulty reading….

One observation I noted when I 1st dyno’d the car each run the power will diminish substantially due to heat soak…. So adding the ISO-Thermal Spacer Kit actually made a difference

On the stock config my pulls where like so:

1. 226
2. 224
3. 220
4. 218

With the Spacer the car stayed the SAME

Last night with the plenum @ 135 -180+ degree's

1. 224
2. 224
3. 223
4. 224

So the M/D product held its power consistently pull after pull….

Yet the HP ratings dropped because it was just soo damn hot…..

Also another observation I noticed the dyno last night made more power SOONER yet since the car is too hot it just drops down instead of making more up top…..

I will re-post when I re-dyno the car ……

Hope this helps some people out

This the the WTF A/F Ratio....

On this Chart you can see the 3 power bands including last nights pull
You can see the a/f is now corrected yet since the car is soo hot the power is dieing rapidly.... (excessive heat soak) also i didnt redline the car on this run..... i just wanted to see where the fuel was at... if i had a wideband i woulda done that this night....

RPM ( WTF A/F Ratio....)

Remember all this was done with A/F in mind not trying to let the car cool down for power or nothing, that will be done on the weekend, doing it with out variables involved...

I will keep you guys/gals posted

2003.5 G35 Sedan A/T ...... They seem low but i take 350z's (stock) :P....

Ran a S2k with a 75 shot... he got me by a car :P..... but none the less a 75 shot...

Actually what i have heard A/T sedans dyno in @ 208-206 i've seen them down to 200whp.... So perhaps its strong perhaps its weak.... dunno what to say right about now :P

Why would i want a 5/16 if the 1/2 is doing better up top ? ..... According to M/D the 1/2 will yield more power.... 1-2 over the 5/16.... I've spent a few hours on the phone with them.... trying to figuire out the glitch we saw prior to my 2nd pull to correct the a/f problem..... Yet the 5/16 may not make more power than the 1/2....

Did you get the 1/2 then switch to a 5/16?... If so..What difference did you see ?

Another thing.... remember I dont have the REV-UP engine.... the 5/16 on the REVUP engine tends to work better as a combination.... especially with the MREV2 as i have been told by Tony...

5/16 will give you more torque and more power around 5k, but it doesn't give you that extra 1-2hp that the 1/2 does. If you look at some comparative dyno's that 1-2 hp increase for the 1/2" spacer is right before redline. The torque increase for the 5/16 might be more beneficial....these cars are lacking in the torque department considering the power they have.

i'm curious about your results too though. What are you using to correct your a/f ratio?
