Did Some UTEC Logging - Mind Taking a Look?
This was a 2nd gear pull on my 2004.5 ProCharged G35 @ 7psi with the UTEC, 255 Walbro, 720cc injectors, SGP Racing return fuel system, and SGP valve body. I stayed on her through the 3rd gear shift (chirped 'em, yeah!!) and then let off right after.
A/F was a steady 10.3 -10.5 (yeah this high 80*F - 100*F weather is kicking my ass)... 2113 012 -7.6 00 ECU. rich 00000 2072 012 -7.6 00 ECU. rich 00000 2048 012 -7.5 00 ECU. rich 00000 1985 013 -7.5 00 ECU. rich 00000 1915 013 -7.3 00 ECU. rich 00000 1832 013 -7.2 00 ECU. rich 00000 1758 012 -7.1 00 ECU. rich 00000 1739 012 -6.9 00 ECU. rich 00000 1713 012 -6.8 00 ECU. rich 00000 1739 013 -6.8 00 ECU. rich 00000 1766 011 -6.7 00 ECU. rich 00000 1773 012 -6.6 00 ECU. rich 00000 1792 013 -6.7 00 ECU. rich 00000 1810 013 -6.6 00 ECU. rich 00000 1828 014 -6.7 00 ECU. rich 00000 1852 014 -6.7 00 ECU. rich 00000 1881 016 -6.2 00 ECU. rich 00000 1939 015 -5.8 00 ECU. rich 00000 1967 015 -5.4 00 ECU. rich 00000 2005 015 -5.1 00 ECU. rich 00000 2037 016 -5.1 00 ECU. rich 00000 2080 015 -5.1 00 ECU. rich 00000 2084 015 -5.1 00 ECU. rich 00000 2112 015 -5.2 00 ECU. rich 00000 2123 016 -5.3 00 ECU. rich 00000 2153 018 -5.1 00 ECU. rich 00000 2214 019 -4.8 00 ECU. rich 00000 2249 017 -4.1 00 ECU. rich 00000 2321 017 -3.9 00 ECU. rich 00000 2354 019 -3.9 00 ECU. rich 00000 2387 019 -4.0 00 ECU. rich 00000 2424 019 -4.0 00 ECU. rich 00000 2461 019 -4.0 00 ECU. rich 00000 2527 020 -3.8 00 ECU. rich 00000 2562 020 -3.9 00 ECU. rich 00000 2620 021 -3.8 00 ECU. rich 00000 2639 020 -3.8 00 ECU. rich 00000 2703 022 -3.6 00 ECU. rich 00000 2718 022 -3.3 00 ECU. rich 00000 2780 023 -3.2 00 ECU. rich 00000 2817 023 -3.0 00 ECU. rich 00000 2901 023 -2.8 00 ECU. rich 00000 2957 024 -2.5 00 ECU. rich 00000 3013 025 -2.2 00 ECU. rich 00000 3089 026 -1.9 00 ECU. rich 00000 3147 027 -1.5 00 ECU. rich 00000 3245 030 -1.1 00 ECU. rich 00000 3310 032 -0.6 00 ECU. rich 00000 3404 032 +0.0 00 ECU. rich 00000 3468 034 +0.4 00 ECU. rich 00000 3580 040 +0.8 00 ECU. rich 00000 3663 043 +1.5 00 ECU. rich 00000 3792 047 +1.7 10 +17.8 rich 00000 3880 048 +2.1 10 +15.5 rich 00000 3949 051 +2.2 10 +15.5 rich 00000 4030 052 +2.3 10 +15.5 rich 00000 4110 054 +2.4 10 +15.5 rich 00000 4145 058 +2.4 10 +15.5 rich 00000 4235 060 +2.4 10 +15.5 rich 00000 4312 062 +2.6 10 +15.4 rich 00000 4420 064 +2.6 10 +15.2 rich 00000 4492 064 +2.8 10 +15.0 rich 00000 4578 066 +2.9 10 +15.0 rich 00000 4675 071 +3.0 10 +15.0 rich 00000 4789 078 +3.1 10 +14.9 rich 00000 4852 079 +3.2 10 +14.3 rich 00000 4923 086 +3.3 10 +13.8 rich 00000 5020 091 +3.4 10 +13.3 rich 00000 5104 094 +3.5 10 +13.0 rich 00000 5175 095 +3.6 10 +12.9 rich 00000 5241 096 +3.8 10 +12.5 rich 00000 5333 097 +4.0 20 +12.3 rich 00000 5420 098 +3.9 20 +12.0 rich 00000 5500 098 +4.1 20 +11.8 rich 00000 5527 097 +4.1 20 +11.5 rich 00000 5630 098 +4.2 20 +11.2 rich 00000 5659 098 +4.3 20 +11.2 rich 00000 5717 098 +4.2 20 +11.1 rich 00000 5797 098 +4.5 20 +11.1 rich 00000 5837 098 +4.4 20 +10.7 rich 00000 6161 098 +4.8 20 +10.9 rich 00000 5984 098 +4.9 20 +10.7 rich 00000 6138 098 +5.0 20 +10.4 rich 00000 6161 098 +5.0 20 +10.3 rich 00000 6172 098 +5.0 20 +9.6 rich 00000 6397 098 +5.3 20 +9.5 rich 00000 6337 100 +5.1 20 +9.5 rich 00000 5847 099 +5.2 20 +10.0 rich 00000 5005 100 +3.9 20 +12.7 rich 00000 4468 100 +3.1 10 +15.1 rich 00000 4415 099 +2.6 10 +15.1 rich 00000 4559 097 +2.9 10 +15.0 rich 00000 4572 066 +3.0 10 +15.0 rich 00000 4616 030 +2.9 10 +15.0 rich 00000 4246 001 -3.5 10 ECU. rich 00000 4156 000 -8.2 00 ECU. rich 00000 4334 001 -11.2 00 ECU. rich 00000 4208 001 -12.0 00 ECU. rich 00000 4187 001 -12.2 00 ECU. rich 00000 4177 000 -12.0 00 ECU. rich 00000 4110 001 -12.2 00 ECU. rich 00000 4115 001 -12.2 00 ECU. rich 00000 4110 001 -12.2 00 ECU. rich 00000 4035 000 -12.2 00 ECU. rich 00000 4089 001 -12.2 00 ECU. rich 00000 4050 001 -12.2 00 ECU. rich 00000 4045 001 -12.2 00 ECU. rich 00000 4030 000 -12.0 00 ECU. rich 00000 3958 000 -12.0 00 ECU. rich 00000 3944 001 -12.0 00 ECU. rich 00000 3858 001 -12.2 00 ECU. rich 00000 3858 001 -12.0 00 ECU. rich 00000 3792 000 -12.0 00 ECU. rich 00000 3703 001 -12.0 00 ECU. rich 00000 3671 001 -12.0 00 ECU. rich 00000 3619 001 -12.0 00 ECU. rich 00000 3519 000 -12.0 00 ECU. rich 00000 3508 001 -11.9 00 ECU. rich 00000 3436 001 -12.0 00 ECU. rich 00000 3377 001 -11.9 00 ECU. rich 00000 Thanks for looking. Now, I know what each column means... but I don't know what is good and what is not... as far as timing, etc... This was my first time actually doing my own (tuner normally just looks over it). So some experienced opinions from outside sources would be awesome! It's been about 6 months since any kind of tuning...

use Logger 1, it gives you more info when logging. Also, you may want to consider some other software so that you can log you A:F info along with the UTEC info. try the UTI software from www.jeffsoftware.com. (I am assumign you don't have the TXS Tuner wideband.)
also, with youe A:F so rich (10.3-10.5) in the hot heat, you may want to consider using the temperature compensation in the UTEC to pull some fuel out during the hot days. also, looking at your log, it seems like you Tuner has some of your paramter set rather oddly. In your log, it looks like you never get past the 20% load column. You can certainly give yourself better resolution and accuracy by adjusting values. Read the UTEC manual about 3-5 times and see if that helps you understand how it works........then you'll see you could set your utec up to better work with your current configuration. finally, your post says you have a 7 psi setup, but your log is showing you only are maxing out at 5 psi.

buy the UTI software from www.jeffsoftware.com
with it, you can log your AEM wideband and the UTEC info together. you have to connect them both separately to your lapto and the software merges the info together so that you can have useful info!

I agree with Quadcam.. also please data log on higher gears like 4th or 5th. If space is not enough space then at least do a 3rd gear pull, 2nd gear just go so fast. Im pretty sure your temp compensation isn't set right at that temp so you may want to fix that. If you are only running 7psi then at least set your Map max value to 8ps or 10psi so you can have a better resolution for better tuning. Timing is also set very conservatively especially at the higher rpm.

holy jesus...that timing is really low.....9 degrees at 6000+ rpms. I didn't even see that. I am not used to looking at that particular logger

I'm not the tuner, SGP is. Is the timing just overly conservative (because that's how I wanted it) - along with a rich A/F (although in the winter months it's 11.3-11.5, so I know it's too rich right now).
This was my first time logging, so there is some good info here, but I'm gonna need a little of your help, and time because I've never, ever worked my way around the UTEC. If you're just now looking at the timing at redline, then all other posts before that are pretty much pointless... because who knows how long you actually spent looking at it... You didn't even manage to message me back, yet can still post in here. Thanks! The car only makes about 320whp, which doesn't matter because it hardly gets driven and it's a ****in ProCharger... not really a 500/600whp monster there... and never can be with this setup... Thanks for all the info though... I'll try to figure it out I guess...

I PM'd back to you, and I didn't see the timing because that is not a logger that I normally use. I use logger "1" which gives you all info except AIT and coolant temps.the timing seems exceptionally low, especially for 5 psi. remember that "conservative" timing is a BS term. back your timing too far back and you will increase your EGTs.... who knows, maybe you have super high AITs, and the low timing and fat fuel curve were a necessity. without truly knowing what was going on when your car was tuned, it is hard to say why the tune was done the way it was done. Finally, I can only assume that since you are posting your log results, you must be questioning the tune that SGP did for you. By asking everyone here to examine and respond to the info you have given them, you are opening yourself up to all sorts of ideas, hypotheses, and opinions. take them all in, and sort it out for yourself.

My appologies.. I never got PM back - I've been looking out for one
try resending I'm sorry. I don't question the tuning, I just want you guys to know that I didn't do anything to do the car and just learned to datalog. It's been 3 seasons since the last time SGP touched it, so I wanted to know how the tune was holding up - or if it needed some kind of retune. It's just frusterating (and I knew this would happen), I used to be 1 mile from SGP so dropping the car off for whatever wasn't an issue... now I'm 250 miles away and you gotta break down what your saying in dumbass terms so I can understand. You keep talking about temp tables and resolution and I have NO idea what you're talking about, lmao. I'm too scared to mess with anything thinking I'll be stuck in BFE East Texas and won't be able to get it to a tuner! I'll download the programs, and get some more gauges (wideband, boost, and fuel pres. is all I have right now) in order to get some more help and understand more about how to do basic changes to my car without messing up the tune since SGP isn't just a short drive down the road. Thanks again

the best thing you can do is read. read everything you can find about the utec and tuning it so that you understand it completely. manuals and other peoples instructions from other threads will help immensely

the best thing you can do is to read the UTEC manual over and over and over...until you understand exactly how everything operates int he UTEC. I know it sound ridiculous, but it works. I took my manual with me when I went on vacaction. when I came home, I had read it over and over so much, that I knew exactly how I wanted to set each "parameter." The manual won't help you with tuning, but it will help you understand the importance of each parameter.
for example, you will understand why you will want to change the "MAP Maximun value." Guessing, I would say that yours is set to 20 psi. On a motor that is only going to see 7-8 psi, you are severely limiting your ability to fine tune your setup. On your setup, you should probably set it to 10 psi.....just to give yourself some room if you decide to up the boost int he future. by lowering the upper limit from 20 psi to 10 psi, you have basically doubled the amount of "load sites" that you have available to you for tuning.......thereby doubling your "resolution." Have fun with it!

OP, set your Map Max value to only 10 so that you'll get a better resolution also you mentioned that your A/F in the winter is around 11.3-11.5 which is pretty normal and conservative enough in my book. This lead me to believe that SGP did not set your Temp Compensation since now you are getting low 10's in the hot summer days. I don't blame SGP since it is hard to replicate that range of a temp in the dyno shop so you have to go back or set it up yourself. Like Quadcam said timing is really low especially in the higher rpm, can you check your Temp Compensation in Utec if it is adjusting the timing also? You don't want Utec adjusting timing when it is compensating for the IAT. I think you should go back to a tuner since there is a lot to be tweaked and I think you have a lot more power to squeeze out of that setup. |
