Cool Market Update: Nissan 350Z - September 2008

Hi Everyone,

I posted something similar a while back and had a pretty positive response:
https://my350z.com/forum/2003-2008-n...ssan-350z.html

Basic Statistics (2003 - 2007, 2008 not included):
o Data is of 15th of September, 2008
o Price change is compared to data from 1 month ago
o # of Zs for Sale = 4,533
o 2003: 804 Cars, Mean Price = 17,406, increase of ~$200
o 2004: 1,223 Cars, Mean Price = 20,084, decrease of ~$600
o 2005: 1,099 Cars, Mean Price = 22,186, decrease of ~ $850
o 2006: 913 Cars, Mean Price =24,071, decrease of ~$1,100
o 2007: 493 Cars, Mean Price =28,805, decrease of ~$4,000

Regression Results:
So I ran a simple GLM regression on the whole 350Z dataset to model Price as a function of Mileage, type (enth. touring, grand touring, etc), color, region and here are something that came up as being significant:
o The intercept came out to be $21,154
o Every Mile that you put on your car costs you 9.5 cents
o Enth. Models tend to have lower value (the estimate was -$840)
o Grand Touring Models have higher value (estimate = $1,482)
o Touring Models have higher value (estimate = $563)
o Grey/Silver models have lower value (estimate = -$907)

Here is a histogram that shows the spread of prices by year:

I think i may have said this in the prior post, but I'm still in the database building stage and probably will be for the next 3-6 months. Hopefully after that I can put up more meaningful analytics.

Ask questions and I'll answer as time permits

Great work again.

Do you have the average values for mileage of the different years?

Yeah, here you go (I cut out the outliers at 150k).

That's an impressive thing you're doing, seme0021! I've always been below average in
charts, statistics & graphs, but yours are very comprehensible & revealing. All in all, I
ain't sorry I got my used 'O4 Touring Coupe--mainly 'cause of the thrills, torquey power
band & looks. NOW you tell me it's depreciation is dawdling...GREAT!

This is awesome! Im looking to buy a Z as soon as possible but part of me says to wait until winter when value is lowest....maybe by early November i can convince people that come winter months sales will be slow as ever with the value just dropping even more.

Thanks for this.
One question, what's the best possible price to get a 08 base model new??
Thus far one dealer was down to $24k+Taxes but the internet manager end up quitting, the rest are down to $24.5k+taxes...what'd be a good (better) price?

$24.5K at this time of the year is still pretty ambitious. The lowest priced base in Cali that i'm seeing is $25.9. A lot of times the Enthusiast models' prices are similar to those of Base models -- keep an open mind

Seme hits it on the head again. This corroborates some statements I made in
other threads. It feels like we have actually plateaued (albeit) at a lower position,
but don't seem to be in some sort of death spiral valuation-wise (something we
have all felt recently). It surprised me to see '03s tick up. I strongly believe that
that 370z will stabilize the values of the 350z's over the mid-term (3-5 years).
This behavior will be similar to the effect caused by the 350z's release to the 300z's.
Take a look at strong 300z's today (ebay being my most significant comping source).
Values actually seem to be improving over the last 12 months. Very very interesting
Seme, and awesome post!

I have not made it out to any of the meets, but I do visit the regional chat forum once in a while. Am thinking about going to the HIN (I think that's what it's called) show
