Default Should I let dealer detail my car?

Alright, the moment of truth has arrived. I am picking up my 2004 Base, Black tonight(11/30/04) at a local dealer, but one more question tho. I heard horrible stories about dealer scratching your car when they detail it. So Should I let them detail my car before I pick it up. Please give some inputs. Thanks guys. The car comes with all the mats, travel nets, splash guards, kick plates, and Aero package, a new aligment before it leaves the lot. and 2% Finance from Nissan. the price is $24,850 + 6% tax +$500 dealer fee + $225 + some local taxes all come out to $27,121.
One more thing, I can't find the 2004 aligment specs, can someone point me to the right direction please? I want to have something to compare with the aligment that the dealer will be performed. Thanks guys.

Some dealers may be better at providing this detaling/cleaning service than others...but I never let anyone else touch the paint on my car. As yours is a SB I wouldn't let them near it. Good luck with your new car and congrats!

Here is a link to current TSB's for the car...don't know if alignment specs are in there though.

Ditto! One other suggestion. When you go in for service, make sure it is clean. Don't want to tell you how many times I have sat in the Service Dept. of my dealer only to see them take dirty chamois and dry off a washed car ... Congrats and enjoy the ride!

i never let them wash my car, but i encourage them to vaccuum my interior.

they washed it once by accident, i was quite upset..... the next oil change was free courtesy of the service advisor and my best "puss in boots" eyes!

Congrats on your new Z! Clean it yourself. Don't trust the dealer. Also make sure when you go in for service to remind them not to wash the car.

The dealership I took my car in for service to once gave it a nice wash ... probably because it was an out-of-warranty issue with my nav system and I had to pay them $50 anyways! But still, it was a decent "dust-off" wash. What I mean by that is it was enough to get the dust off the car that it gets when it sits in their shop.

Either way, I'd much rather wash the car myself. And hey, it's exercise!

Never, Never, Never. I told them not to touch a thing. Leave on all the plastic and stickers etc. If anyone is going to scratch my car it's going to be me not some poor guy who is making $7.00 per hour and is trying to wash it will all the other cars he has to wash. I just give it a real good look and I don't find anything, I accept delivery which then takes them off the hook.

Don't let them put a dealer sticker on it either. I've yet to see one that enhanced the appearance of a vehicle.

STOP! Just say "NO" to the detail and go directly to www.zainostore.com. And as the great Zaino Master (Dr. Bonz) will confirm..... Never, under any circumstances, no matter how dirty your car gets, let the dealership wash it..... Unless of course you just don't care.

My thoughts:

ABSOLUTELY NOT !!!!

Have you even seen how the dealerships detail cars???? Products used???

I even have a sign made up that I place in the Z thats says "Please do not wash" when it goes in for service.

Trust me you can do 100x's better by detailing it yourself and having to correct all the dealer swirlies....

The Infiniti dealer always gave me a courtsy wash when I brought in my cars this is my first non infiniti in many years).

They did a nice handwash the guy did it right in the reception bay next to the customer lounge.

He took pretty good care doing it and I usually tipped him.

Don't do it.

However, for you guys who live in colder climates with snow, what do you do about cleaning your car?

I drive my Z in the winter whenever it's clear without snow to give it some "exercise"? But can't clean myself because I live in a complex and no place to clean.

So I take it to a 'VIP touchless' car wash. What do you guys think?

Oh yeah, in summer I clean the car myself (water doesn't freeze on car in summer, but it does in 32F as I found on while trying to clean my previous car!-acura integra)-just Brilliant

PS I am temp in NE.

The chemicals in the "touchless" washes are not doing your paint any favors...no matter how dirty my car gets...I always wash and dry it myself.
