It is NOT supposed to be covered under warranty, but Nissan has been bending over for all 350Z owners with small synchro problems so they will probably replace it if you make up a good story of how the problem has been going on for months and such.

wow then what if nissan charge the fee for tranny replacement?
how much will it be?...
I think Jason Performance Nissan said the dealer invoice on the trannies is something like 1200-1600. Add that to whatever the book says the labor charge is and you will arrive at your final number. A burning smell doesn't sound like a tranny problem. If your tranny isn't making any noises or shifting funny then that probably isn't it. If it smells like burnt electronics or hot brakes I would say the clutch got too hot. Is the clutch slipping, chattering or otherwise abnormal? Did you do any hard launches or slip the clutch a bit too long? If it didn't glaze over then it should return to normal with normal use over the next 500-1000 miles.

Yeah you probably just burnt the clutch real bad or something. Normally mis shifts don't hurt transmissions or clutches but ruin parts in the head when you float a valve from over reving. I would give it some time before taking it to Nissan if it still drives fine.

No matter what, if your brought the Z to Nissan now or later.. All they have to do is plug in the Diag. and they can tell what's happen to it. Anywhere from highest RPM reached, Top Speed hit, everything.. So theyll know what happen either way.
