Default Motor Trend Speaks More On The 350Z and My350Z Too!

Just received my December issue of Motor Trend and in the Mail Section, a reader from FL writes: "For about the same raw dollars-never mind the inflation adjustment- as a Gen-4 300ZX of a dozen years ago, I can get a sexy new Z. It's like time travel!"

A reader also wrote and complained of the supply of our thus far limited 350's!
M/T's reply: "Limited supply and hot demand is what's going on! Nissan tells us there were 8,000 advance orders, nearly a quarter of the full first-years expected 350Z production! Deliveries did indeed begin in mid-August, but especially in the ramp-up phase of an all-new model, it's going to take months to fill those early orders.
Our source also says the early announcement of pricing was an experiment to control some of the silliness in the showrooms and enable consumers to have a healthy dialog with one or more dealers. Their hope was that dealers would sell cars for MSRP and be realistic about delivery tomes, rather than add a premium or promise cars too soon. The per-dealer allocations on this "limited-production" car were tight from the start, and given America's franchise laws, the manufacturer or importer can't do much to control the dealer. What does a salesperson say if you're # 250 on a list of 70 cars his dealership will be getting? Is it conceivable he might offer an optimistic date in return for a higher price? SURE!
Nissan NA is actively soliciting feedback from consumers unhappy with dealer's treatment. Call Customer Affairs (800-NISSAN). Also, many active (if unofficial) Web sites have sprung up around the Z, and some post stories about dealer experiences, good and bad.
Do your research at www.my350z.com.---Ed >M/T"

Interesting if not informative write up! I am comfident (and spoke with my Infiniti and Nissan dealerships) that at least for the next few months, those of us who have the car, can easily sell it for what we paid, if not considerably more depending upon region. And also, I have been informed that most dealers WILL MARK THE 350Z UP CONSIDERABLY next year...
