Default Groceries in the rear hatch.......

I went to the store this evening and loaded the groceries into the rear of the Z. On the ride home the bags slid around like I was playing pinball. Every turn and every stop caused the bags to slide from side to side or back to front. On further inspection I find the material covering this area is very slick. Any intelligent suggestions on preventing this in the future?

You could try one of the nets. The one at Courtesy won't help much, but the separation net from japanparts might. Mine's on the way, I'll tell you how it is.

Actually, I never plan on carrying groceries in the Z, so maybe I won't be able to answer your question.

Does Nissan or someone sell a net for the rear hatch area? I think I remember seeing one someplace online some time ago. I could be wrong though.

Nissan does sell a cargo net but it's only good for low level objects. It wouldn't work for groceries...too tall.

I get paper bags, and have bungee cords handy. then I use the plastic loops in the trunk to lightly strap that stuff to the back.

I put a bag of "stuff" to bring back to college with me, and quickly noticed you cant see out the window at all. the bag rode up in the passenger seat with me. that was a bit disappointing, but not really new for the idea of a hatch.

I want to get a cargo net, but it wouldnt fit over a grocery bag.

perhaps the problem isnt in the matting or grocerys, but in the aggressive driving that the Z seems to bring out in all of us? hehe

my best suggestion would be like a rubber mat, kinda like a shower mat, should hold to the mat and the stuff wont slide on plastic, but with enough force they will tip over... but thats about the best I can think of.

My mother actually gave me one of these things a while back:

I have no idea where she got it. Must be one of those mom things. This site has them listed: http://www.arjan.com/BOX.htm It works pretty well. I've also found that I can jam a few plastic grocery bags under the cargo net.

Maybe I should just get married so I don't have to go grocery shopping anymore.

LOL
My groceries moved to when I drove my Z last time for grocery shopping! It was crazy hearing plastic bags moving around inside the trunk! (This is my first hatchback.) I need a trunk net as well. Or when I was in Japan last time, they sold this trunk place mat type of thing made of rubber. It's supposed to place objects in place. I might try getting that.

Ummm, I just only buy the amount of groceries that I know will fit in the floorboard of the passenger seat....obviously I go the store alone!

We have a rubber mat in the hatch of our saab that keeps stuff from moving, plan on putting one in the Z too.

When I go to the grocery store in the Z, I bring my personal "mini-me" trunk valet to secure the bags. He only asks for Cheerios in return!

Just kidding, toddlers should never ride in the Z.

I talked to Nissan and they had two suggestions:
1 - Buy enough groceries to pack them in tight enough that they don't move
2 - Keep your RPMs under 1200

Just Kidding Nissan

Ouch!!! The good news is that I sold my tickets to that game well in advance. I hate watching us lose to BC in person - I can turn the TV off when it gets too ugly. As Tyrone Willingham says, "we're still 8-1".

If you purchased the OEM trunk mat, you can turn it over (yes, it fits like that, 'cause I've already done it). It's rubber on the back and pretty "tacky". I don't think anything will slide too easily on it.

A bonus is that if you have a minor leak or spill, it's not on your nice trunk mat.

Keep your car cover in the trunk. You can use it to fill up the extra space and keep things from shifting and tipping over. Works well for me, anyway.
