If you're thinking of painting your brake calipers, there are 3 options with various degrees of quality.

(1) VHT or similar brand of high temp spray paint. Invariably this can be spotted as do-it-yourself job by the most casual oberverver. Cheap to complete, and it looks the price.

(2) FoliaTec Brake Caliper Paint. An excellent, glossy, durable and brushable lacquer finish. About $45 per kit. A good option that's easy to do.

(3) Powdercoating. The most professional, durable finish for the calipers, IMO. An almost endless selection of colors and finishes.
However, are you prepared for the labor? The calipers SHOULD be disassembled for the powdercoating process in order to prevent damage to the seals and pistons. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Dean-
Great site! Kind of hard to tell on computer, but it looks like they could match the color pretty close. I'll just have to decide if I want to really tear into the brakes and strip down the calipers; depends on the difficulty and amount of down time for the car.

I have had plenty of machinery parts power coated in a previous job for a industrial turbine manufacturers. The process involves baking at a rather high temp. Because of this, if you really want to power coat your calipers, you should completely disassemble them to prevent other parts from being damaged. Especially the seals etc.

In any major cities there should be plenty of shops that will powercoat for you. Good place to get a referral is to go talk to a good body shop or a custom machine shop. They will most likely be able to refer you to someone local to your area.

You don't need to powder coat. I used a two part epoxy paint from G2.

Buy the kit and an extra small paint brush form a hobby store and you won't even need to mask anything off. Clean the calipers really well and the paint will last until you can afford an upgrade.

Thanks for reviving this thread Shagz, I'd long since forgotten about it.

I believe the word of the day is Poseur:
n : a person who habitually pretends to be something he is not [syn: poser]

"I was considering powdercoating the stock brakes the color of the Brembos to at least give a flash of color, if not the impression that the car actually has really expensive brakes."

FWIW - I've painted my calipers before. *GASP* The were very conspicuous between the spokes of my wheels and looked unfinished so I sprayed them with hi-temp engine paint. The point is, if you want to paint your calipers go for it! Just don't do it to make people believe you have Brembos when you really don't.

Im also considering powder coating my calipers. The price isnt really an issue, since my dad owns a powerder coating paint shop. But is disasembling the calipers going to be a pain in the @ss?.

What colors do you guys recommend? I have a Black G35 Coupe with stock 18's.

Think any of you can photochop some black calipers on a Black G35 Coupe with 18's?

Im open for any color suggestions except for gold, (brembo color) pockadots, and stripes.
