clutch noise
Sorry but I cannot find my old thread. Sorry for the repeat.
I have DB 2004.5 Roadster with 1300 miles. I started noticing a strange noise. After the car is warmed up with the clutch pushed to the floor I get a noise that sounds like a rod knocking. When I take my foot off the clutch noise goes away.
I took it to dealer 4 weeks ago. The mechanic test drove the car and then got on the phone with someone. He said Nissan recommended he replace throw out bearing and fly wheel. Based on some of the other threads I was expecting them to say the noise is normal. So I was at first pleasantly surprised that I did not get the run around.
Parts were ordered last week. I just got the car back on Wednesday. At first I thought the car was golden. Then after Christmas dinner pulled her into the garage and heard the same sound.
WTF!! I got a great deal on the car. $900 under invoice. But after a month of ownership she has been to the dealer twice. Want to start doing modifications but do not want to give the dealer reasons to blame issues on my modifications.
Has anyone had these issues? If so what was the resolution?

I've heard the same thing on this forum. But I tried it on a friends 6MT and he does not have the noise. I see your posts frequently and you have probably forgotten more than I will ever know about these cars. I have torn down the tranny on my 280zx turbo and built several other cars. None of my other cars ever had this type of noise.
What causes the 350z clutch / tranny to exhibit this noise?

When you say "knocking", do you mean one or two knocks...or a constant knock-knock-knock-knock? (who's there?
)
This car does make some noises (especially at low speeds) and you just have to get used to them. If I'm driving really slow in a parking lot in 1st gear....often when I press in the clutch I hear a "dink" which I've gotten used to. I hate it but it is in fact "normal".
It sounds like you have a decent service department (given that they replaced your flywheel and what-not) so I say go ahead and mod. If you mod at all you always take the risk that the dealer will blame the mods for problems. But you can always try other dealers.
They do have the flywheel thing on file now though so if something related does break, they have a record at least. That might work for or against you though.
